20 years of experience
Virtual

I have 20+ years as a licensed professional counselor and 15 years post graduation in clinical psychology. My virtual practice focuses on women and men who are seeking to reduce depression and anxiety while enhancing positive mood. These sessions are priced by your insurance company. I do not take insurance for in-person sessions. My in-person practice is play therapy for children and adolescents. These sessions are full price at $170. Clients are taught coping strategies to manage difficult feelings. My approach is to conduct evaluations, design treatment plans, and facilitate individual therapy. My educational background includes an undergraduate degree in psychology from Texas A&M University, a master's degree in professional counseling from Texas State University and a Ph.D. in clinical psychology from Alliant International University. My doctoral dissertation was "Childhood Near-Death Experiences and Psychotherapy." In 2009, this research study won an award for meeting the California Mental Health Services Act requirements for research about spirituality.

What can clients expect to take away from sessions with you?

The first session is an intake devoted to learning about you. I review your presenting issue. I listen without judgement. I do not offer solutions during the first session.

Explain to clients what areas you feel are your biggest strengths.

I fully listen to what you say and do not say with non-verbal communication. I learn your patterns of speech and behavior. I assist you with achieving your goals, albeit, emotional or tangible goals.

Describe the client(s) you are best positioned to serve.

For eight years, I have had a private practice in Fredericksburg, TX where I work with a myriad of clients ranging from age 4 to geriatrics. I often work with mothers and parenting, as well as non mothers who are grappling with their mood or life transitions. I assist men and women with all stages of life.

My treatment methods

Eclectic

Eclectic therapy draws upon a multi-model theoretic approach that is designed to the client's particular needs. It's is an integrative therapy that includes yet is not limited to Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Person-Centered Therapy, and Mindfulness Therapy.

Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)

CBT helps patients identify and change unhelpful thoughts and behaviors. I will listen without judgement to your thoughts and feelings. We will identify your life stage and goals for your individual treatment plan. We will target your current problems and symptoms. Let's start with the foundation of the positive strengths that you already posses. Together we can strengthen your quality of life through applying strategies to your daily life.

Trauma-Focused CBT

It is an evidence based treatment that helps people cope with trauma-related difficulties. TF-CBT helps people develop new perspectives on their trauma. It helps people learn skills to cope with trauma, such as relaxation, feelings identification, and cognitive coping. TF-CBT incorporates gradual exposure to help people learn to avoid trauma reminders and memories. This style of therapy helps people challenge and change beliefs that are no longer helpful.

Feminist

In the past, I worked for women and children's domestic violence and sexual assault shelter. I learned Feminist Therapy. According to Psychology Today this style of therapy focuses on the challenges that women face as a result of bias, stereotyping, oppression, discrimination, and other factors, and how those stressors can negatively affect their mental health. It is based on the belief that wellness is inextricably linked to an individual's social and cultural identities and the political environment in which they live. The therapeutic relationship, based on equality between therapist and client, and their ability to forge an authentic connection, helps clients understand some of the social factors that may contribute to their mental health concerns, discover and claim their unique identity, and uncover and build on their personal strengths to advance their own lives and those of others. Feminist therapy has evolved to include families and people of all ages, and any gender, who seek exploring the role of gender plays in their emotional lives and relationships or their loved ones. Anyone who has been marginalized, including people of color; individuals who are lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, or gender variant; people in poverty, immigrants, refugees, and people with disabilities can benefit from feminist therapy.
