Hello, and welcome! My name is JD, and I’m a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) in both Oklahoma and Texas. I’m currently completing the internship portion of my doctorate in clinical psychology, with the goal of becoming a licensed psychologist in the near future. My hope is that through our work together, I can help you find relief and resilience as you navigate life’s challenges. I look forward to supporting you on your journey toward well-being

What can clients expect to take away from sessions with you?

In our first session together, we'll start with brief introductions, then dive into the specific challenges you're facing. This will help me create a tailored plan for us to work through in follow-up sessions.

Explain to clients what areas you feel are your biggest strengths.

Having worked with young people, veterans, athletes and members of the LGBTQ+ for the past 7 years, I've developed a tried-and-true playbook for helping you (a) identify the root cause of your challenges and (b) create a tailored plan that leads to measurable progress.

My treatment methods

Dialectical Behavior (DBT)

I have been using Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) in my practice for the past five years, working primarily with medical students and military veterans. My experience with DBT has shown me how powerful it can be in helping individuals manage intense emotions, develop coping skills, and build resilience. In my sessions, I focus on creating a supportive and collaborative environment where clients feel understood and empowered to apply DBT techniques in their daily lives. I tailor the approach to meet each person's unique needs, whether it's through individual therapy, group sessions, or a combination of both, always aiming to help them achieve their goals and improve their overall well-being.

Acceptance and commitment (ACT)

I have been practicing Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) for the past seven years, specifically working with athletes. My experience with ACT has allowed me to help athletes navigate the unique psychological challenges they face, whether it's managing performance anxiety, dealing with injury recovery, or maintaining focus and motivation. In my practice, I emphasize the importance of embracing thoughts and feelings rather than avoiding them, while also helping clients commit to actions that align with their values. My approach is to create a safe, non-judgmental space where athletes can explore their inner experiences and develop mental strategies that enhance both their performance and overall well-being. I work collaboratively with my clients to tailor the therapy to their individual needs, ensuring that they can apply these techniques both on and off the field.
