Hello, I'm Makenzie! It can feel exhausting most days when we feel disconnected from ourselves, our relationships, or our surroundings. I’m here to help you feel comfortable with those uncomfortable experiences, shifting towards a deeper connection with yourself. Let’s get to know each other, build coping skills that will turn into healthy habits, and explore what self care means for you.

What can clients expect to take away from sessions with you?

In our sessions, we will begin to explore your needs for seeking therapy, appreciate your willingness to try something new, and identify realistic goals that will turn into long-term happiness for you. I offer a kind and compassionate, yet direct approach to therapy. Two of my core values are Kindness and Compassion, so those will always come first when working together. However, I also believe that sometimes healthy confrontation can act as a positive motivator for growth in life.

Explain to clients what areas you feel are your biggest strengths.

I offer a safe and nonjudgmental environment for you to begin you healing journey and decrease emotional pain. I provide a structured setting to build a foundation with you, while providing tools for you to move forward with your own goals. I have a special interest in working with adults ranging from 25-40 years old who are struggling with anxious or depressive symptoms. I love working with my folks to build self-esteem, create a structure for realistic self-care, and increase acceptance of reality as it is in the present moment.

My treatment methods

Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)

Cognitive Behavior Therapy is an evidence-based practice that focuses on recognizing how your thoughts and feelings can influence your behaviors. In this therapy modality, we explore ways to challenge cognitive distortions, change negative core beliefs, and take positive action to change unhealthy behaviors. I utilize CBT techniques in session format to help build self-esteem, alleviate depressive symptoms, and understand your cognitive functioning on a deeper level.

Acceptance and commitment (ACT)

Acceptance and Commitment Therapy is an evidence-based practice that encompasses 6 different constructs to create a rich and meaningful life change. The six core processes include cognitive defusion, being present, self as context, values, committed action, and acceptance. In our sessions, I will utilize various methods from the six constructs, sometimes encouraging homework, to build awareness of how to decrease overall suffering in life.

Daialectical Behavior (DBT)

Dialectical Behavior Therapy is an evidence-based practice that builds on learning and applying four core skills. Within this approach, we work on building strategies and skills that support healthy interpersonal relationships, mindful awareness, emotion regulation, and tolerating moments of distress with minimal suffering. I work alongside you, providing education and insight, on how to apply these therapy skills in your real-life situations.
