Welcome! I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) based in North Carolina. As a millennial therapist, I bring a relatable and compassionate approach to helping clients manage stress, anxiety, relationship challenges, and life transitions. I specialize in perinatal mental health, supporting individuals through pregnancy, postpartum, and the emotional adjustments of parenthood. I provide a supportive, nonjudgmental space and work collaboratively with clients to build practical skills that foster resilience, emotional well-being, and lasting personal growth.

Get to know me

In our first session together, here's what you can expect

During our first session, my primary goal is to get to know you and understand what brings you to therapy. We'll discuss your current concerns, challenges, and goals for therapy, as well as any relevant background information. This will help me tailor our work together to meet your specific needs.

The biggest strengths that I bring into our sessions

My sessions provide a warm, empathetic, and non-judgmental space where clients feel truly heard and understood.

The clients I'm best positioned to serve

I specialize in perinatal mental health, supporting clients through fertility challenges, pregnancy, postpartum adjustment, birth trauma, and the emotional demands of motherhood. I work well with clients who may appear high-functioning on the outside but feel exhausted, disconnected, or unsupported internally. Many of my clients are seeking relief from anxiety, stronger boundaries, improved self-worth, and a deeper sense of emotional balance. I provide a compassionate, collaborative space where clients can process their experiences, build resilience, and feel more confident and grounded in themselves.

My treatment methods

Dialectical Behavior (DBT)

As a specialist in Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), I focus on helping clients develop skills to manage emotions, improve interpersonal relationships, and cope with distress. My practice emphasizes mindfulness, emotion regulation, distress tolerance, and interpersonal effectiveness. I work with individuals experiencing a range of challenges, including borderline personality disorder, mood disorders, and trauma. Through a combination of individual therapy and skills training, I aim to empower my clients to create a life worth living, integrating DBT principles into every aspect of treatment.

EMDR

EMDR therapy is a structured treatment that helps you process and recover from past traumas or difficult life experiences. During an EMDR session, we'll focus on a specific memory or event that is causing you distress. While you think about this memory, I'll guide you through a series of eye movements, taps, or sounds. These bilateral stimulations help your brain process the memory in a new way, allowing you to reduce the emotional intensity associated with it. The idea is that traumatic experiences can get 'stuck' in our brains, causing ongoing distress or negative thoughts. EMDR helps to 'unstick' these memories and reprocess them in a way that they no longer cause the same emotional pain. It's like helping your brain finish what it couldn't at the time of the trauma, leading to healing and relief from symptoms.

Attachment-based

Attachment-Based Therapy focuses on understanding and improving the relationships and bonds that influence an individual's emotional development. My work centers around exploring early attachment experiences and their impact on current relational patterns and emotional well-being. I help clients identify and address attachment-related issues, such as insecurity, anxiety, or difficulty in forming healthy relationships. Through a compassionate and supportive therapeutic environment, I assist clients in developing a more secure attachment style, fostering healthier connections with themselves and others.

Trauma Informed Care

Trauma-informed care is a way of providing support that recognizes the widespread impact of trauma and understands potential paths for recovery. It emphasizes creating a safe, trustworthy, and empowering environment for individuals who have experienced trauma. The key principles of Trauma-Informed Care include ensuring safety, building trust, encouraging peer support, fostering collaboration, empowering individuals, and being culturally sensitive and inclusive. This approach aims to avoid re-traumatization, support recovery, and empower individuals to heal and thrive.

Acceptance and commitment (ACT)

Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) helps perinatal clients manage anxiety, intrusive thoughts, and emotional overwhelm by teaching them to accept difficult feelings rather than struggle against them. It also helps clients reconnect with their values and take meaningful, value-based actions, increasing resilience and confidence during pregnancy and postpartum.

I was referred by a friend because she felt that Kayla was kind, helpful, and understanding. She genuinely enjoys talking to Kayla, and she felt that she would be helpful for me as well. This was our first visit, and I appreciate how receptive and understanding she was.

Kayla is my second therapist, and I have maintained a patient-therapist relationship with her for over two years now. When she moved, I chose to follow her because she is exactly what I need in a therapist. She is empathetic, honest, and provides me with strategies and "homework" to assist in my growth. She genuinely cares about improving the lives of her patients and approaches her work with authenticity and altruism. She is a true advocate and an outstanding therapist.
