I graduated with honors with my Master’s in Mental Health Counseling in June 2020 and I am currently a 3rd year PhD student in a Doctorate of Psychology program specializing in the treatment of and research into Trauma. I was honored to be able to present at the 2022 and 2023 VCA State Conference on the topic of Chronic Suicidal Ideation and was a recipient of a 2022 Virginia Counseling Association Emerging Leader in Counseling Award. My clinical focus is on trauma, complex PTSD, crisis, anxiety and mood disorders, military service-related stress, chronic and acute suicidality, personality disorders, self esteem concerns, self-harming behaviors, traumatic-brain injury-related stressors, dissociative disorders, and communication/conflict resolution skill building with families and individuals. However, I work with clients coming into therapy with a wide array of concerns and from many different walks of life. I not only provide general psychotherapy, I am also well-versed in assessment and testing, career counseling, parenting, sexual and gender-related issues (to include fertility complications), eating disorders, dual diagnosis, and homeopathic care. I am a lead member in my local Community Emergency Response Team (for the last 10 years) and am an instructor for Disaster Psychology with CERT; I am currently pursuing Crisis Intervention Specialist Certification as well as CISM certification. I hold professional membership in the Virginia Counseling Association (VCA), American Psychological Association (APA), as well as the American Counseling Association (ACA) including membership in the AARC, ACC, AMCD, and MGCA divisions. I am also a member of the Chi Sigma Iota Chapter of the Counseling Academic and Professional Honor Society International and The National Honor Society of Leadership and Success. The combination of my many personal, academic, and professional endeavors, places me in a unique position to walk with clients (and their families) along their mental health journey while ensuring they are receiving evidence-based care of the highest quality!

This quote I believe in as I feel it speaks to purpose and being born on purpose and not by mistake. I work with a client to build a therapeutic rapport as I feel this to be essential to making therapeutic gains. I embrace the elements of unconditional positive regard, being authentic and genuine, and empathy to help build that therapeutic rapport with a client. I consider listening, patience, acceptance, and honest communication, and observing healthy boundaries as my greater strengths. I look forward to working each potential client in navigating through challenges to obtain mental, emotional, physical, spiritual, and social well-being.

Hello, I am Dr. Young. Life is full of colors. Light or dark, each has its unique quality. The secret to becoming successful in playing the game of life is to change from the inside out. We live to move forward, and it requires us to be more and do more. Resilience is an innate human capacity. In my view, everyone is capable of self-healing given the proper guidance and provided with supportive conditions. With a cultivated healthy sense of self, solutions appear with the clarity to think about what you desire in life, not what you cannot or don't have. In tough water, even good swimmers might struggle. If you have dreams and hopes, I can help you to pick up new skills going through the waves of life. Let's work together!

Hi, I am a licensed psychotherapist! I specialize in Men’s issues, with several years of experience providing mental health services, primarily to Men. I believe everyone has the potential for change when provided optimal psychoeducation, a space to be vulnerable, and individualized therapies that are driven by genuine warmth and support. Men historically do not seek mental health services because of stigma, fear of not being understood, and limited numbers of male therapists who "get" them.

Populations I have assisted in their journey to mental health and wellness include college students, adults, and the elderly; physically handicapped, intellectually disabled, emotionally disturbed, and seriously mentally ill. My life experiences have molded me into a genuinely empathetic clinician who is able to connect with clients and help to empower them as they heal and grow. I am also a mother and hold a full time position in a state job, so my clients will be asked to be flexible with me from time to time. I return flexibility to them with respect, as I will explain in the first session.
