I am Gina Rose, a License Clinical Social Worker, with 6 years licensed experience, 15 years experience in counseling. My practice is Liberty Treatment in Hampstead, NC. As a social worker I treat behavioral, mental health, and/or substance use problems with therapy and other interventions. I have been told that I have a really interesting way of putting things that helps folks learn and change. The help I give can be knowledge, skills, and experiences. I focus on present coping abilities, improving relationships, and making changes that lead to you being stable on your own as quickly as we can.

First session

I hope you feel optimistic about the changes and have understanding and confident in the plan we create. You could feel optimistic about the changes that will come over time. If you were in couples or family therapy the participants may have the same exercises or other exercises to meet your shared or mutual goals.

Strengths

My style is direct, prescriptive, holistic and cumulative. We will build a collaborative relationship, and infuse you with confidence and compassion. I work with you on identifying homework together so you do meaningful things between appointments. I am an advocate for freedom so I am a safe space for a variety of people with different political beliefs, and personal identities.

Ideal clients

I tend to support people who unfortunately are aware a relationship change is coming. They may have recognized they are in a pattern of impulsive choices. They may want to stop unhelpful behaviors like substance use, self harm, or attention seeking/ affection seeking. They are aware that they have historical experiences influencing them. They may have tried and failed repeatedly but they are going to keep trying. Their goal is to get to a stable independent place where they can keep up positive changes.

Treatment methods

Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)

Simply, this focuses more on "how I see things" and "what am I focusing on" to stay solution focused, and actionable. This is a classic therapy that is a base for most other therapy. It focuses on breaking up the problems in our life into smaller pieces. It helps us sort out what is easy for us to control or change. There is vocabulary words, visuals, and its based on research of millions of therapy cases. It is not best for treating racism, discrimination, oppression type topics but it does help us focus on what we can do about repeating patterns we do not want to continue.

Acceptance and commitment (ACT)

This model is a lot like cognitive behavioral therapy, but it is about our values. How we feel about ourselves, others and the meaning behind our choices or the judgement of others actions becomes more clear. Being able to make different decisions at change points to move towards aligning with our values helps us move away from looking for approval from others or obtaining things.

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy for Insomnia (CBT-i)

If you are having trouble sleeping this therapy may be helpful before you end up at a sleep study. There are many different contributing factors to developing insomnia. If you have had life long off and on issues with insomnia and you dont know why you get off track or how you get back on track this can be extremely helpful.

Cognitive Processing (CPT)

This therapy is a manualized treatment lasting 6-12 sessions. It is "therapy right in front of you" because it is structured exercises focusing on the way you are impacted by trauma, not the actual traumatic event. There are two ways to do it -- if you want to write about what happened you can -- it is not necessary to review the trauma. There is a lot of writing and forms but, this is how we learn to see our "stuck points" and how to address safety behaviors that are not helpful anymore. People who do not like EMDR may like this.

Psychodynamic

a form of talk therapy that helps people understand how unconscious thoughts, feelings, and past childhood experiences shape their current behavior and relationships. The therapeutic relationship is helpful increasing a space where we are able to make these connections. There can be dream analysis, and learning about transference (how we project onto others). Tends to provide long lasting change.
