Warm Greetings! I have 31+ years of experience in the counseling field since 1993. I earned my Masters degree through Longwood University. I have specialized in working with children, tweens, teens, and young adults. Adult clients ranging up to seniors can explore in an accepting space as I journey alongside them. I currently work extensively with diverse families and adults with unique backgrounds as well. I believe in creating a safe space for all individuals to be heard and validated. I value building trust and openness with people to support them as they unravel the twists and turns that life presents us all. When I listen attentively in sessions, the person, couple, or family are the most important people in the room as we seek to shed light on the areas we can discover together. I see clients both virtually and in my office. *In-office sessions require prior approval by contacting me directly.

I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW/LICSW) and Certified Clinical Trauma Professional (CCTP), licensed in the states of Connecticut (CT), Virginia (VA), North Carolina (NC), Massachusetts (MA), and Florida (FL). With over a decade of experience, I specialize in helping individuals heal from the lasting impact of trauma and various other negative life experiences. My clinical work is rooted in a trauma-informed approach, with advanced training in EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) and Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT)—both evidence-based treatments that have been shown to significantly reduce trauma-related symptoms and promote sustainable, long-term healing. In addition to these approaches, I also integrate CBT-I (Cognitive Behavioral Therapy for Insomnia) and CBT-N (Cognitive Behavioral Therapy for Nightmares) into trauma work when appropriate. Since sleep disturbances are a common and often overlooked component of trauma, these targeted interventions can be incredibly beneficial. By helping clients improve sleep quality and reduce trauma-related nightmares, CBT-I and CBT-N not only address important symptoms but also enhance overall emotional regulation and resilience. My goal is to provide a safe, supportive space where healing can begin, and clients can regain a sense of control, stability, and hope.

As a licensed clinical social worker (LCSW), I am dedicated to mental well being and building resilience. The most important step in therapy is to create a safe relationship between client and therapist, then, using modalities like IFS (Internal Family System), Brainspotting and Polyvagal theory to help alleviate symptoms from unresolved issues that remain present in our daily lives, and mental wellbeing issues that decrease our quality of life. I work with adults of all ages. I use trauma informed care with body and nervous system awareness. Learning and creating compassionate connections to your inner system and learning to release emotions through the body may lead to relief from mental health issues. Like the movie, Inside Out or Inside Out 2, parts are like characters that have their own roles, emotions, beliefs and interactions with others. With time, parts work feels more comfortable and familiar and you can settle into your own system and internal experience. You will learn to notice your nervous system responses to different situations. “IFS is a loving way of relating internally (to your parts) and externally (to the people in your life), so in that sense, IFS is a life practice, as well. It’s something you can do on a daily, moment-to-moment basis—at any time, by yourself or with others.” ― Richard C. Schwartz, No Bad Parts: Healing Trauma and Restoring Wholeness with the IFS Model

As a licensed clinical social worker, I am committed to collecting evidenced based "tools for my toolbox" to aid those grappling with finding the new normal after their world has shifted. I most love helping people find language to describe their losses, often when there has been difficulty finding the words, inspiring people to find hope again, and facilitate the development of a plan to move forward in a way that both honors their experiences and embraces the future. I take an action-oriented, collaborative approach to therapy. I utilize a combination of psycho education, storytelling, and evidenced-based interventions to offer meaningful insight to support clients’ healing. I strongly believe that rock bottom is the foundation upon which we can rebuild our lives. We do regular check-ins to review progress along the way. Our goal is not to change the past, but instead to find some relief from symptoms that impact daily functioning. I will solicit feedback regularly during sessions for takeaways to gauge progress and curate treatment interventions based on what is most engaging and productive for the individual client.

Hi, my name is Craig. I'm going to go out on a limb and guess "something" isn't OK. That "something" may be new or it may have been around for quite some time. You might be able to describe that "something" perfectly or maybe you don't know what that "something" is, but you know you are just feeling "off". Maybe you are familiar with therapy, or maybe this is the first time considering it. The only thing that matters at this moment is that you are taking that first step. I start from where you are at and work with you from there. No assumptions, judgements, or "one size fits all" approaches. Just a desire to understand you, your needs and your goals for therapy. Therapy is a different experience for everyone. I understand that and we will work together in addressing whatever has led you to taking this first step.

Welcome. I will challenge you (with your permission), laugh with you and expect you to come with a goal and be willing to be actionable about whatever homework you decide to try. If you aren't prepared for a little challenge to your thinking, you aren't engaged in our counseling process. It's okay to be unsure, but not to believe anyone can make things better without your effort. Paying for someone to say you're right 100% of the time may feel good in the moment, but there is no growth in the comfort zone and no comfort in the growth zone.

Frequently asked questions

Why filter by Virginia rather than a city like Richmond?

When looking for online therapy, you can see anyone that is credentialed in the state. We want you to find the best fit, therefore, Grow Therapy shows available therapists across Virginia from Norfolk to Roanoke! If you’d rather see someone in-person, you can change the filter from virtual and find a therapist near you in Virginia.

Will my therapist take insurance?

When booking you’ll be asked to verify with your Member ID. However, if you don’t have any of the insurances available you can select cash. Our therapists will have their cost of appointment on their profile. Individual session costs will vary.

How does the Specialty Filter work? Can I find a therapist that focuses on Military/Veterans?

The specialty filter is optional. You don’t need to check any boxes to see a provider. However, fit is very important when selecting an online therapist. If you have knowledge or experience to recognize what specialties you may need. For example, your selected specialty, Military/Veterans, is filtering therapists in Virginia that work with patients with similar concerns.

Why use Gender, Age, and Identities filters?

Finding a provider with a similar life experience can be beneficial because it can be easier to establish rapport and potentially be understood quicker and clearer.

What to expect during your first session?

Your first therapy session is for you and your therapist to meet each other and to ask any questions that you have about the counseling process. This is where you can expect your therapist to do the same as they will ask questions to gain insight into your specific situation. In this first session the therapist is doing their part to gather as much information so they can better assess if they are able to meet your therapeutic needs.

Depending upon your provider's specialty, you may also discuss the methods the therapist will use. For additional information on therapy methods, please visit the Grow Therapy Help Center. Some people feel nervous before their first appointment, and that is totally normal! Coming prepared with a list of questions for your therapist may help. Remember, you're taking a brave step by seeking therapy, and it is okay to be nervous as you try something new.
