(she/her)
Hi! My name is Charnelle Cook and I am a Licensed Professional Counselor in Virginia with 10 years of experience in the private practice setting. I attended Virginia Commonwealth University for undergrad and I earned my Masters of Arts in Counseling from George Washington University in 2016. I believe that autonomy is important for clients when in therapy and take a person-centered approach, allowing my clients to lead their sessions with me. I believe that therapy is powerful and I love to help people work through their life challenges. Choosing to seek counseling services is a big decision to make, and I applaud you for making the first step in becoming the best version of yourself!
In our first session together, we'll start with brief introductions where we are able to learn a little about each other. We will then dive into the specific challenges you're facing that led to you seeking counseling services. This will help me create a tailored plan for us to work through in follow-up sessions.
I work with clients of all ages, but have a great deal of experience working with young adults to mid 20s/30s populations. I consider myself to be a relatable and culturally competent therapist. I have worked with clients of all ethic and racial backgrounds, I work with clients who are part of the LGBTQ+ community, and clients in various stages of their professional careers from college students to mid-career executives.
I work with clients of all races and genders, but the majority of clients that I work with are women of color, who are in different stages of their professional careers. I help my clients navigate the various challenges that may they face in work and romantic/family relationships.

Strength-Based
I would consider myself a strengths-based therapist because people tend to focus on the things that are not going well for them and I encourage people to focus on the things that are going well for them instead.
Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)
I utilize Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) techniques in my practice by helping client's identify problematic thinking patterns and setting realistic goals to improve them. I believe when we change our thinking, we can change our lives.

It was my first session, and it was like meeting a new friend. Charnelle really listened and made sure she got to know me and my story. I am looking forward to continuing my therapeutic journey wth her.....
