I specialize in working with children, teens, adults, and families who are navigating challenges such as trauma, anxiety, depression, emotional dysregulation, and life transitions. With a strong foundation in evidence-based practices: including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Child-Parent Psychotherapy (CPP), Family Therapy, Mindfulness-Based Therapy, and Psychoeducation, I provide a supportive space where individuals feel seen, heard, and empowered to grow. My work is rooted in the belief that healing happens through connection, understanding, and practical tools. Whether you're a parent seeking support for your child, a teen learning to manage emotions, or an adult working through generational trauma, I tailor treatment to meet you where you are. I'm your partner! Let's navigate life's challenges as they emerge. I'm your partner that supports you in building those healthy coping skills that already exists within; a healthier version of your self. It's like my Texas sister Beyonce' says "Let me upgrade you". As the times change, we must have the ability to upgrade the manner in which we embrace and manage the impact of those changes such as changes in job, relocation, death of a loved one or family member, empty-nesters, transitioning into a caretaker role for a parent , child, or sibling.... I have an interesting educational background as I presently have a Bachelor's Degree in Criminal Justice from Sam Houston State University, A Master's of Social Work from The University of New England and presently working towards a Doctorate of Psychology in Behavioral Health Leadership. In my free time I love to eat seafood and spend time with my family. I hope to partner with you soon as you are the expert of your life.

Hi — I’m Sonjia Smith, LMFT, a Licensed Marriage and Family I’m Sonjia Smith, LMFT, a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist, Specialized Crisis Counselor, and the founder of Therapy with Sonjia (formerly Couples Therapy with Sonjia).
Born and raised in Brooklyn, NY, my passion for mental health is deeply personal. As an African American, Christian, Queer Cisgender Woman, I bring a lived, compassionate perspective to my work — creating a space where high-achieving women of all backgrounds feel seen, supported, and deeply understood.
Throughout my career, I’ve worked with individuals, couples, and families navigating complex relationship and emotional challenges. But over time, I noticed a pattern: so many successful, ambitious women quietly carrying invisible wounds — the trauma, perfectionism, people-pleasing, and exhaustion that often go unnoticed beneath high achievement.
That’s where my heart led me.
Now, my work is centered on helping men and women heal from childhood and relational trauma, release survival patterns that no longer serve them, and reconnect with the versions of themselves they’ve longed to be. I specialize in supporting those dealing with:
• Attachment wounds
• People-pleasing and boundary struggles
• Anxiety, anger, and emotional reactivity
• Histories of intimate partner violence
• Exhaustion from constantly holding it all together

A variety of issues to include Depression and Anxiety, trauma, relationship issues, men's issues, and personality disorders are areas in which I have particular experience in treating. As a Clinical Supervisor at a community-based facility, I provide clinical supervision to Qualified Mental Health Professionals, review and maintain compliance, and assist with other leadership tasks.
Welcome!
I came to this work a little differently than some. After spending 16 years in my first career, I found myself sitting across from a therapist for the first time. That experience changed my life. It gave me not only a new perspective on myself but also a deep desire to help others in the same way. So, I made a big leap: I went back to school to become a therapist myself.
Since then, it’s been over two decades of meaningful, often humbling work. I spent 21 years in community-based mental health and substance abuse treatment, and I was fortunate to serve as a contracted therapy provider for the Department of Defense—work that gave me a profound respect for the strength and resilience of those who serve. I’ve also worked in private group practice and provided therapy in intensive outpatient programs in Canada, gaining experience with a wide range of individuals and challenges along the way.
In November 2021, I opened my own private practice. It’s been an incredible privilege to support individuals and couples in this more personal setting, and I truly value the relationships I build with each client. If you’re considering therapy, I want you to know you're not alone—and change really is possible.

You may feel desperate, alone, and misunderstood. You feel like you are floating in the bottom of a lake and cannot see the light above you. Everyday, you feel like you are just going through the motions. If this describes you, then I may be the therapist for you. In my nearly twenty years of experience, I have helped people like you reach their potential and achieve the recovery that they needed. There is no set system or quick fix as others may promise, but I will walk down the road with you. My primary focus is on helping you deal with ambiguity. Often our thoughts and subsequently what we teach ourselves becomes rigid and fairly black and white. Using a pragmatic and authentic approach to therapy I try and help you be okay with things that are beyond your control and work with you to establish yourself as the protagonist in your own story. This is primarily accomplished through conversation and allowing you the client to guide the therapy in the direction it needs to go.
I am a black male with a post graduate degree in clinical metal health and behavior therapy that has experience providing services from case management towards the SMI population as well as provided services to those involved in legal requirements. Having experience in multiple arenas I am confident that we can develop methods to provide action towards the goals that an individual has set for themselves.

Greetings to you and all
With a wish for good health and peace in your life.
My name is Sherby John. I have been working and learning along this journey, we call life, just as you have.
It can be a journey filled with joy and struggle. Have you reached a point where it seems there is more struggle than joy or feel stuck in the muck that seems to only get deeper or harder to transgress?
Then maybe it is time to find new paths and options by having a guide on this journey. Therapy can be a vehicle for change and development of workable tools to assist in continuing with this journey. Whether you are dealing with Depression, Life changes, Anxiety, Relationships, Trauma, or a new medical or mental health diagnosis, therapy can be a useful mechanism for support, discernment, and information.
I would like to provide you with a safe and welcoming environment and space to relieve yourself of these stressors through working on alternatives to current reactions to triggers or stressors in the way of continuing your journey, your way and at your own pace.
Come in.
Lets Talk.
Lets get to work.
If you can read this, you made the first step. Congratulations. Seeking therapy is hard. Most people delay and tell themselves that whatever they are experiencing must be the way life is. Chances are if you have reached the point to begin exploring therapy, counseling can help make your life better. While therapy is often hard, it can be an enjoyable and uplifting experience as well. I believe that you cannot laugh without a combination of insight and relief. You can expect some humor in most sessions.
I have been a Licensed Professional Counselor for over 20 years. In that time I have worked with men, women, teens, and families on a wide variety of issues. Sometimes that work simply involved helping them through a particular incident or life change that overwhelmed them. Other times our work together centered around longstanding issues of depression, anxiety, trauma, and addiction.
In addition to traditional cognitive behavioral therapy, I also offer a fourth-wave therapy, Emotional Freedom Technique (EFT). I have found this technique to be highly effective in helping people with trauma and or anxiety. Our minds and bodies are connected. Anyone who has experienced a tight neck and shoulders or an upset stomach when they were stressed knows this. EFT uses acupressure (done by the client) and cognitive interventions to provide fast and effective relief.
With over 20 years of clinical experience, I am ready to help you through the challenges you are facing. In addition to counseling, I also provide vocational testing, coaching, and consulting.
I provide both Christian and secular counseling depending on the needs of my clients.
For clients with high level confidentiality concerns due to corporate or clearance issues, there are ways we can do EFT without you ever speaking out loud about events.

Have you been hurt by someone you trusted — and now you feel lost, rejected, or overwhelmed? My specialty is helping adults heal the wounds of betrayal, breakups, and divorce. I also work with clients navigating anxiety, grief, major life changes, and depression, offering tools to manage overwhelming thoughts, calm inner chaos, and rebuild self-trust.
My path to becoming a therapist was shaped by my desire to help people heal beneath the surface and reclaim their sense of identity and authentic self. Along the way, I’ve learned approaches that teach clients how to manage overwhelming emotions, challenge negative thought patterns, and release the stress their bodies hold onto after trauma. These methods help clients find relief from anxiety, depression, grief, and relational betrayal in ways that last beyond the therapy room.

I practice a relational and integrative approach grounded in collaboration and clinical insight. I value appropriate self disclosure when it supports the therapeutic process and use my training and lived experience to help clients develop tools that genuinely serve them. My work draws from an eclectic foundation that includes Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), Solution Focused Therapy, Polyvagal Theory, and Somatic approaches. I also integrate alternative and mind body methods that expand healing beyond traditional talk therapy, supporting both emotional and physiological well-being.
I practice from an intersectional perspective, recognizing that our identities—race, gender, sexuality, neurotype, ability, culture, and lived experience intersect to shape how we move through the world and how the world responds to us. Healing requires honoring all of those parts.
I believe neurodivergence is not something to be fixed, but understood, supported, and celebrated. Therapy is a space to learn your brain, not fight against it, to understand how it works, identify what it needs, and build systems of support that honor your authentic wiring.
