Hello. I'm Brenda. Are you ready to make a change? Do you feel overwhelmed with life and are seeking skills to help you meet life head on? Do you need a safe place to examine situations from your past that are holding you back? I am an enthusiastic listener who is experienced in building non-judgmental therapeutic relationships in order to meet you where you are and work together to establish and meet your goals. Together, we’ll explore the difficulties you are experiencing, and work to effect a positive change. We’ll build resiliency and learn new coping skills that will allow you to better manage your emotions as you traverse stressful situations. We can also integrate mindfulness, yoga and art to help you develop a stronger relationship with yourself. Self-care is important, and you are taking the first step by searching for a therapist. I look forward to your call so that we can get started on our journey together.
In our first session, we will build rapport, getting to know each other, so we are better able to work together. We will discuss what brings you to counseling and what you would like to gain from it. We'll establish some clinical goals and objectives, and discuss any special considerations needed.
I work well with clients of all ages. I come from a special education background where I worked with children, teens, and adults with emotional disabilities and mental health issues and have been working in the mental health field for almost 10 years, where I have continued my experience with clients of all ages. I have a lot of experience with the LGBTQ+ community, older adults, and clients from different cultures.
Brenda Hamilton offers therapy covered by Kaiser Permanente - Medicaid and UnitedHealthcare/Optum - Medicaid in Virginia.
I usually use ACT, in combination with CBT and DBT so that we can examine the connection between thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. We can use mindfulness to be aware of our thoughts and feelings in the moment, accept them, examine whether or not they are helpful, and being able to move on from those thoughts.
