I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker based in Virginia. I received my graduate training at Smith College School for Social Work in a clinically focused program. I believe that here is hope in the process of self-discovery. You are responsible for your process of change and the power of healing lies within each of us. I will be your skilled responsive partner. We will hold space for difficult and joyous moments. Let's journey together as you gain insight and build a life that works better for you. My therapeutic approach is attuned, responsive, person-centered and culturally aware. I strive to build a trusting empathic connection that fosters safety and authenticity. I have worked with persons presenting with a wide range of issues including trauma, anxiety, depression, interpersonal challenges, adjustment challenges, stress reactions, and male abuse survivors.
First sessions are a chance for us to get to know one another and for you to decide if my skills and expertise match your needs. I use an integrative approach based on evidence-informed interventions and assessment tools.
The foundation of my approach centers on therapeutic engagement in an authentic relationship where you are empathically understood, seen, and heard to facilitate your growth and healing. There are times when the aim is to allow you to narrate your experience and feel supported and times when I encourage you to be more curious about your internal process and explore alternative ways to view the experience. There is hope in the process of self-discovery. You are responsible for your process of change and the power of healing lies within each of us. I will be your skilled responsive partner. We will hold space for difficult and joyous moments. We will journey together as you gain insight and define action steps to build a life that works better for you.
Through my training and experience I use CBT to help teach clients that they can have control over thoughts, feelings and behaviors, and challenge automatic beliefs and devise action steps to change unwanted patterns of behavior and reactions
Trauma informed care guides my thinking interns of taking a proactive approach to safety and understanding the physical and mental effects of trauma from the client's perspective. I work with clients to understand their past and look forward to who they want to be and rebuild a sense of trust and establish new relational connections.
Object relations theory guides my conceptualization of client concerns and looks at early relationships with people that influence a person's later relationships. These unconscious relationships have been internalized and continue to influence current adult relationships.
The context for treatment must align with the client's background, values, beliefs in order to provide the most effective treatment. My aim is to foster a therapeutic relationship where the client feels heard, seen and understood. Allowing space for cultural considerations and experiences fosters trust and better assessment.
