I am a licensed professional counselor (LPC) in Virgina. I am completing my Ph. D. in Psychology and Counseling with an emphasis in trauma and crisis. I have facilitated therapeutic practices with children through geriatric clients in my 30+ year career. I enjoy working with veterans, women's and men's conflicts, couples, and those diagnosed with developmental disabilities (ID/DD) as long as they can be responsive via telehealth. Please contact me for a consult.
In our first session together, we'll start with brief introductions, then dive into the specific challenges you're facing. We may discuss past experiences and what has worked/not worked. We'll discuss who will be integral in future sessions. This will help me create a tailored plan for us to work through in follow-up sessions.
I have found that active listening, looking past facades (defense mechanisms), being open to feedback (after all, therapy is for your benefit), and maintaining a hopeful, positive outlook for clients' success goes a long way. I believe that change is a part of life and growth is ongoing. Live until you die is my motto (thus, my continued education in my doctoral pursuit and zest for life-even at my age). I am forever learning from clients, other professionals, even failures. Trials can truly be strengthening and build character. In fact, some of my greatest trials have been my greatest blessings in life.

No one functions or learns within a vacuum. Adlerian theory works well with families, individuals, and couples as this modality explores familial and social contexts and focuses on basic needs of belonging, identity, and interconnectedness. This awareness and practice toward fulfilling these needs reduce negative feelings that can result in unproductive, maladaptive, and self-defeating behaviors. Adlerian practices can increase motivation toward successful integration and feelings of purposefulness by understanding how early experiences can shape self-concepts, personality traits, and coping strategies.
As a woman of color, I relate to nuances of cultural barriers to living a wholesome, free, lifestyle. Insensitivity and diminished societal acceptance can negatively impact thoughts, emotions, and behaviors, purpose, self-concept, and motivation. In session, I approach conflicts surrounding sexual orientation, abilities, ethnicity, lifestyle, and many other factors with interest and acceptance to enhance a therapeutic environment in which your true, confident self is highlighted.
