I am a compassionate mental health provider dedicated to helping individuals navigate life’s challenges with greater clarity, resilience, and confidence. I believe that healing begins in a safe, supportive space where you feel heard, respected, and understood. I work with individuals experiencing anxiety, depression, grief and loss, life transitions, relationship concerns, stress, and challenges related to motivation and personal growth. Many of my clients come to therapy feeling overwhelmed, stuck, uncertain, or emotionally exhausted. Others are seeking deeper self-understanding or meaningful change. No matter where you are in your journey, I meet you with empathy, curiosity, and without judgment. My approach is collaborative and strengths-based. I integrate evidence-based practices such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), grief therapy, and Motivational Interviewing to help clients better understand their thoughts and emotions, develop healthier coping strategies, and build confidence in their ability to move forward. The impact of our work together often includes: Increased emotional awareness and regulation Reduced anxiety, depression, or distress Healthier thinking patterns Greater self-compassion and confidence Improved decision-making and motivation The ability to process loss in a meaningful way A renewed sense of purpose and direction My goal is not simply symptom relief, but lasting growth. I strive to empower clients with practical tools and insight so they feel more in control of their lives, more connected to their values, and more capable of handling future challenges independently. Therapy is a courageous step. I am honored to walk alongside my clients as they heal, grow, and create meaningful change in their lives.

I’m a therapist with a social work background, and I work with young and middle-aged adults who are dealing with all kinds of stress in their lives. Over the past decade, I’ve worked with many LGBTQ+ and BIPOC individuals as they navigate the emotional ups and downs that can come with living in a changing social and political climate. Sometimes that stress shows up as anxiety, low mood, or intrusive thoughts that come and go. Other times, it can feel heavier or harder to manage on your own. I aim to create a space that feels warm, genuine, and welcoming—one where you can show up as you are and talk openly about what’s going on. Our work together is centered on what you need and what healing looks like for you. I’m thoughtful, curious, and supportive, and I also know when to be direct. My goal is to help you build tools to cope, make sense of your experiences, and move forward in a way that feels grounded and sustainable.

Hello! I’m Nina, a Licensed Clinical Therapist who has been working in trauma intervention for 17+ years. Before becoming a therapist, I worked as a rape crisis counselor, a trauma-healing self-defense instructor, and trauma-informed care consultant for non-profits. I approach therapy using multiple modalities. I believe in the mind-body connection and integrate mindfulness and body-based interventions where needed, including a focus on the physiology of stress and emotions. I use a wholistic approach to therapy, exploring all your identities, ambivalences, and values, and believe that understanding your upbringing and cultures are critical to how you cope and relate to the world and yourself in it.

I am a psychotherapist who works with a diverse population of people. My goal is to collaborate with individuals to assist them in achieving their therapy goal(S). My treatment modalities are cognitive behavioral therapy, dialectical behavioral therapy, mindfulness-based therapy, and Ericksonian hypnotherapy approaches. Although I used these modalities, I do not use a one size fits all approach. I am a think-out-of-the-box clinician that will often challenge clients to try approaches that may be out of their comfort zone. Some examples of my experience include working with individual clients on developing skills in coping with mental health conditions/diagnosis, life stress, finding balance, and improving self-esteem. Although I use these approaches, my clients tell me it feels like we are having a conversation as opposed to feeling like they are in a therapy session. I have a specialization in working with Veterans, LGBTQI, men, and people of color populations. However, I work with all people who are seeking mental health services. I am licensed in DC (LICSW), VA (LCSW), MD (LCSW-C), and PA (LCSW). I have BS in Human Ecology, BA in Humanities from The Ohio State University, MSW from San Jose State University and Post Masters fellowship in mental health from Stanford University.

I also have extensive knowledge and sensitivity in working with individuals experiencing anxiety, depression, bipolar, difficult life transitions, parenting issues, relationship problems, LGBTQIA issues and other life challenges. My understanding of counseling comes from many different theoretical orientations. I believe that the client or clients have the solutions to their dilemmas within one’s self. Therefore the counselor does not have the “answers” to the client’s “problem” but is a facilitator of the process that helps the client take responsibility and action and come to a resolution. I am here to support and guide you on that journey.

Frequently asked questions

Why filter by Maryland rather than a city like Baltimore?

When looking for online therapy, you can see anyone that is credentialed in Maryland. We want you to find the best fit, therefore, Grow Therapy shows available therapists across Maryland from Hagerstown to Ocean City! If you’d rather see someone in-person, you can change the filter from virtual and find a therapist near you in Maryland.

Will my therapist take insurance?

When booking you’ll be asked to verify with your Member ID. However, if you don’t have any of the insurances available you can select cash. Our therapists will have their cost of appointment on their profile. Individual session costs will vary.

How does the Specialty Filter work? Can I find a therapist that focuses on LGBTQ?

The specialty filter is optional. You don’t need to check any boxes to see a provider. However, fit is very important when selecting an online therapist. If you have knowledge or experience to recognize what specialties you may need. For example, your selected specialty, LGBTQ, is filtering therapists in Maryland that work with patients with similar concerns.

Why use Gender, Age, and Identities filters?

Finding a provider with a similar life experience can be beneficial because it can be easier to establish rapport and potentially be understood quicker and clearer.

What happens during the first therapy session?

Your first therapy session is for you and your therapist to meet each other and to ask any questions that you have about the counseling process. This is where you can expect your therapist to do the same as they will ask questions to gain insight into your specific situation. In this first session the therapist is doing their part to gather as much information so they can better assess if they are able to meet your therapeutic needs. Depending upon your provider's specialty, you may also discuss the methods the therapist will use. For additional information on therapy methods, please visit the Grow Therapy Help Center. Some people feel nervous before their first appointment, and that is totally normal! Coming prepared with a list of questions for your therapist may help. Remember, you're taking a brave step by seeking therapy, and it is okay to be nervous as you try something new.
