In our first session, my goal is to create a supportive and nonjudgmental space where you can begin sharing what brings you to therapy. We’ll also review your intake paperwork and screening outcomes together to ensure that all the information you’ve provided is accurate and complete. This includes confirming your emergency contact information, which is especially important for telehealth sessions to help ensure your safety and well-being. We’ll talk about your current concerns, any symptoms you’re experiencing, and what goals you hope to achieve through therapy. I will review a few essential policies with you, including: * The Telehealth Policy – outlining how virtual sessions work, privacy considerations, and what to do in case of a technical issue. Telehealth sessions should be conducted in an environment with an excellent internet connection and privacy; therefore, a moving vehicle is not suitable. * The Late Cancellation and No-Show Policy, which outlines expectations regarding attendance and the handling of missed appointments. Please note that I do not work on Sundays, so you will need to contact me on Friday to discuss any cancellations for a Monday appointment—all cancellations require a 24-hour notice. The cost of a no-show is $155. You’re welcome to ask questions at any point, and we’ll move at a pace that feels comfortable for you. By the end of the session, you’ll have a clearer sense of what to expect going forward and whether we’re a good fit to continue working together. I look forward to meeting you and beginning this process of healing and growth.
As an experienced professional in mental health and social work, I have developed many attributes that enhance the productivity of individuals and their families. One of my notable skill sets is my ability to work with clients in various settings with various behavioral, emotional, and mental health needs. I have successfully worked with infants, children, adolescents, and adults. I’ve been privileged to conduct therapeutic counseling for individual, group, family, classroom, and play sessions. Each age group, setting, and focal point of counsel has required me to implement different skills and techniques. Being able to do that effectively has ensured that all involved were engaged and benefited from therapy.
I am compassionate, honest, and supportive when working together with clients to meet their treatment goals. I also can “connect” with teens and young adults, individuals, couples, and family issues, and I have the ability to be “direct” when needed. For me, therapy is… Having the courage and willingness to grow and change to make your life better.
Cognitive Behavior Therapy (CBT): Michelle incorporates CBT to treat a wide range of disorders, including phobias, addiction, depression, and anxiety.
Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT): Michelle assesses and provides TF-CBT to address trauma-related issues.
Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT): Michelle uses ACT to provide therapy for anxiety, phobias, and worry.
I have extensive experience working with couples who are navigating challenges such as communication breakdowns, emotional distance, trust issues, parenting stress, infidelity, and life transitions. My approach is collaborative, supportive, and grounded in evidence-based methods. In sessions, I help each partner feel heard and understood while teaching practical tools to enhance communication, resolve conflicts more effectively, and rebuild connections. I draw on approaches such as Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT) to strengthen emotional bonds and Cognitive Behavioral techniques to challenge unhelpful patterns. We also explore each partner’s underlying needs, attachment styles, and relationship history to promote deeper understanding and lasting change. Couples therapy is not about placing blame—it’s about learning new ways to relate, grow, and move forward together. Whether you’re hoping to repair a relationship or strengthen one that’s struggling, I’ll support you both in working toward your shared goals.
Culturally Sensitive Therapy for Racial Trauma: Michelle uses therapy that acknowledges racial identity and the impact of systemic oppression. By validating the client’s lived experiences, this approach promotes healing in a culturally affirming way.
