As a therapist in the Veterans Administration’s Vet Center program for fifteen years, he was one of the first qualified second-level screeners for the James A. Haley VA Hospital Poly-trauma Unit, (one of four in the country) where he gained invaluable experience working with our most severely neurologically traumatized veterans. Hi, My name is Velma Penermon Stevens, therapist with Soulistic Counseling and Therapeutic Services, LLC.. I am a licensed therapist (LCSW-QS) in the state of Florida. I attended Florida A&M University for undergraduate school then I went on to obtain my MSW degree from Florida State University. I have over 25 years working in the not for profit sector and 10 years in pastoral care. It is these work experiences where I gained my passion to help others, leading me to open my own private practice agency.

I am passionate about creating a safe, connected, inclusive therapy space to process whatever it is you would like to discuss. My goal is to awaken the strength and resilience that is inside of you, so you can live a meaningful life. I have experience working with clients of all ages and with a variety of topics, including anxiety, depression, trauma, OCD, LGBTQ+, relationship issues, and more. I like the therapy space to be a creative and collaborative experience. I am primarily a person-centered therapist. This means the focus is on you- the whole person- not just what’s troubling you. Healing is not a one-size-fits-all, and I will work with you to create goals and a plan that fits you and your needs.

Unfortunately, many people find it easier to ignore the feeling, “push things under the rug”, and leave it for another day. Over time, this can lead to relationship issues, chronic anxiety, and even depression. Throughout the therapeutic process, we will work on identifying some of the triggers causing these emotional disturbances. We will dive deep and pinpoint reasons as to why these negative feelings surfaced originally. You will also come out of therapy with the necessary tools to calm your mind. The quote “knowing is half the battle” plays a big part in trying to solve what is happening in your life. Life is too short to be constantly on edge all day long…it is exhausting if you ask me. Time and time again I see people living with the everyday doom and gloom feeling and not doing anything about it. I have worked with many individuals, couples, and families who have taken the first step to resolving that overwhelming feeling they experience for weeks, months, and even years. My favorite part of being a therapist is witnessing how my clients experience a better quality of life.

Greetings, I'm a Licensed Mental Health Counselor (LMHC) based in Florida. I received my Master from Carlos Albizu University in Puerto Rico and I have been practicing for 6 years. I help people between the ages 18 and 90 year old struggling with daily life stressors and difficulties to better manage mental health issues. I work with them in a process of guidance and accompaniment to become their best version of themselves.
