I have a Bachelor of Arts degree in Criminal Justice and a Master of Science degree in Mental Health Counseling. I am currently licensed in the State of North Carolina as a Licensed Clinical Mental Health Counselor - Supervisor (LCMHC-S), #S9235, and a Licensed Clinical Addictions Specialist, #2998. I have over 23 years of working in the mental health field as well as with substance abuse clientele. I specialize in clientele with chronic mental illnesses including psychosis, personality disorders, addictions, and mood disorders. I have extensive experience working with various clientele populations including children through geriatrics, foster care children, sex offenders, adult inmates, and juvenile delinquents.
Therapy is a process where the client discusses issues and concerns with me to find a way to cope with situations and/or relieve themselves of the stressor. I like to make sure that clients recognize that it is not a method of being given the answers to their problems or how to solve daily issues. You already have that within yourself! I will be there to be an objective voice in order to help you to view different perspectives from other angles. It is easy for a person to become wrapped up in their own issues that they are unable to rationalize. This is where I come in to help you “to look outside of the box”.
There are many modalities that I've used in the past. The most common one is CBT. I also incorporate solution Focused, Person-Centered, Motivational Interviewing, Mindfulness, etc.
I have over 23 years of working with couples and I've had the chance to work with many different populations of people including inmates, foster children, geriatric, etc.
I have an enormous amount of experience working with mood disorders and addiction.
