About me

Hello, my name is Tabitha Cantu, and I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker. I’m a Hispanic therapist born and raised in the desert, surrounded by mountains that have always felt like home. At heart, though, I’m also a beach lover who finds peace by the ocean. I am licensed in Texas, New Mexico, and Florida and have lived and worked in each of these states. Throughout my career, I’ve had the privilege of supporting communities from diverse cultural backgrounds and life experiences. My own Hispanic heritage has greatly shaped both who I am and the way I approach therapy. It has also inspired my private practice’s focus on cultural identity, life transitions, and the unique experiences that women and teen girls often navigate. Our cultural identity and the environments we grow up in have a profound impact on who we become. Family expectations, cultural values, generational beliefs, school pressures, and societal messages can all influence how women and teen girls view themselves, their relationships, and their sense of worth. In our work together, I honor your background and lived experiences while helping you explore what feels authentic to you. My goal is not to change who you are, but to help you feel more grounded, confident, and connected to the version of yourself that exists beneath the pressure, expectations, and roles you’ve been taught to fulfill.

In our first session together, here's what you can expect

Therapy is a process that takes time, consistency, and trust. During the first 1–3 months, much of the work focuses on building rapport, creating a safe and supportive therapeutic relationship, and gaining a deeper understanding of your experiences and goals. Meaningful change does not happen overnight, and progress looks different for everyone. Growth in therapy is highly dependent on the client’s willingness to be open, consistent, and engaged both during and outside of sessions. Therapy can feel uncomfortable at times because it often involves vulnerability, self-reflection, and discussing difficult emotions or experiences. However, discomfort can also be part of the healing and growth process. Telehealth sessions are treated with the same level of professionalism, care, and consistency as in-person sessions. Clients are encouraged to attend sessions in a private, quiet space where they can fully participate and feel comfortable engaging in the therapeutic process. Over time, with patience and consistency, many clients begin to feel more comfortable, connected, and confident in their journey toward healing and personal growth.

The biggest strengths that I bring into our sessions

I help people gain the COPING TOOLS to learn to trust themselves and the POWER they hold. You don’t need to have all the answers before starting therapy. My job isn’t to tell you how to live your life—it’s to help you better understand yourself, work through what’s getting in your way, and remind you that you’re more capable than you may realize. Therapy is not about "fixing you." It is about managing symptoms and being RESILIENT to life's constant challenges. So take a chance on YOURSELF! BOOK TODAY- and learn all the good and ooey-gooey parts that make up the wonderful human that you are.

The clients I'm best positioned to serve

My ideal clients are women and teen girls who want a safe space to talk, feel understood, and learn healthy ways to cope with life’s challenges. You might be feeling anxious, overwhelmed, stressed, or stuck, or struggling with depression, low self-esteem, friendships, relationships, family conflict, school, work, or major life changes. You may also be trying to set healthier boundaries, manage big emotions, or better understand yourself. Whether you’re looking for support during a difficult time or want to build confidence and healthier coping skills, I’m here to help you feel heard, supported, and empowered as we work toward your goals together.

My treatment methods

Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)

I use Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) to help clients understand the connection between their thoughts, emotions, and behaviors. Together, we identify unhelpful or negative thought patterns that may be contributing to anxiety, depression, stress, or low self-esteem, and work to replace them with more balanced and realistic ways of thinking.

Dialectical Behavior (DBT)

I use Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) to help clients build practical skills for managing intense emotions, coping with stress, and improving relationships. In our sessions, we focus on developing mindfulness, emotion regulation, distress tolerance, and healthy communication skills. I help clients learn how to pause before reacting, cope with difficult situations in healthy ways, and set boundaries while maintaining positive relationships.

Trauma-Focused CBT

I use Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT) to help clients who have experienced difficult or stressful events process their experiences in a safe, supportive, and empowering way. This approach focuses on understanding how trauma can impact thoughts, emotions, behaviors, and relationships. Together, we work on developing healthy coping skills, improving emotional regulation, challenging unhelpful beliefs, and building a stronger sense of safety and confidence. I incorporate techniques such as grounding exercises, mindfulness, relaxation strategies, and gentle exploration of experiences at a pace that feels comfortable for each client. My goal is to help clients understand that their experiences do not define them and support them in healing and moving forward.
