I have a special place in my work for people who are tired of always having to be the strong one, the person everyone calls, the person who handles everything, the person who looks fine on the outside but knows there's a lot going on underneath. If that sounds familiar, I want therapy to be one place where you don't have to keep that up. With me, you can talk like yourself. You can laugh, you can cry, you can say "I don't know." We'll start wherever you are and go from there. Hi, I'm Keia, a Licensed Clinical Social Worker licensed in Virginia and Texas, and founder of Beyond Your Reflection Counseling Services, LLC. I'm glad you found your way here, and I want you to know I'm not here to judge your story, I'm here to help you understand it, work through it, and decide what you want the next part of it to look like. I know people come to therapy for all kinds of reasons. Sometimes you know exactly what's wrong, and sometimes all you know is that something doesn't feel right anymore. Either way, you don't have to come into our first session with everything figured out. I've spent years working in community mental health, crisis intervention, and care management, supporting people through anxiety, depression, grief, trauma, relationship concerns, and major life changes. I've learned that people don't always need someone telling them what they "should" be doing. They need someone who will really listen, understand what's happening, and help them figure out what comes next. That's the kind of therapist I am.
Our first session is really about getting to know you. There’s no pressure to tell me everything or have the perfect words. We’ll talk about what brought you to therapy, what’s been weighing on you, and what you hope to gain from our time together. I want you to leave feeling heard, comfortable, and clear about how we can work together.
Connection is what turns a good technique into something that actually changes your life. You can hand someone a coping skill, but it only works when they feel safe enough to actually use it with you. That's why I focus on building real trust first, before we even get to the "tools" part of therapy. I want you to feel like you're talking to a person, not being processed through a system. When you feel truly seen, that's when the real work starts to happen. That's also why I'm easy to talk to, but I'm also going to be real with you. I'm not going to spend the whole session sitting quietly while you wonder what I'm thinking. I'm going to talk with you, ask questions, and help you connect the dots and recognize patterns you may not have considered before. And yes, sometimes I'm going to challenge you, but it will always come from a place of wanting to see you move forward. I also understand that life doesn't stop just because you started therapy. You still have work, family, relationships, and responsibilities waiting when the session ends, so I want what we do together to make sense in your real life. We can talk about what's hurting, but we're also going to talk about what you can actually do with it.
My ideal client is someone who’s ready for things to feel different, even if they’re not completely sure where to start. You may be tired of overthinking, carrying too much, feeling emotionally drained, or repeating patterns that no longer work for you. You want a space where you can be honest, feel understood, and begin making changes that actually fit your life. You’re ready to understand yourself better, break old patterns, and finally make space for your own needs. Having a mindset that you know you want to take the steps to change.
We will use CBT to help you better understand the connection between what you think, how you feel, and how you respond. In our sessions, we’ll talk through the thoughts and patterns that may be keeping you stuck, while also recognizing what’s already working for you. I’ll help you challenge negative thinking, build healthier coping skills, and find practical ways to handle difficult situations. I want our sessions to feel like a safe space where you can be yourself, feel heard, and leave with tools you can actually use in your everyday life.
We will use mindfulness to help you slow things down when life feels overwhelming. Together, we’ll work on becoming more aware of your thoughts and emotions without immediately reacting to them or judging yourself for having them. I may use breathing exercises, grounding techniques, or simple ways to help you stay present during stressful moments. My goal is to help you feel more in control of your emotions, more connected to yourself, and better able to handle life as it comes.
