About me

Hi! I am a Licensed Professional Counselor, Supervisor (LPC-S) based in Texas. I received my Master of Counseling degree from Dallas Baptist University, and I have been practicing now for 18 years. My passion is in working with women struggling with relationships and balancing family. I also specialize in working with families that have a child with a diagnosis of Autism and adults with Autism.

Get to know me

In our first session together, here's what you can expect

Our first session will be a great time to go over some information on counseling sessions such as confidentiality. We can spend time answering any questions you have for me or counseling and then I will get to know you and learn what challenges you are facing. This will help me create a tailored plan to give us direction for future sessions. Sometimes I also start a genogram which I use as a tool that will allow me gather information about family history and possibly identify where concerns come from within the family. I will ask you what you want to get out of counseling and what your expectations are for the sessions.

The biggest strengths that I bring into our sessions

I love what I do as a counselor. It has been an honor watching my clients grow and have "lightbulb moments". It is exciting to watch clients learn new tools and coping strategies and make lasting changes. I have worked as a counselor for 18 years. I am skilled at identifying root causes and then creating a plan that leads to lifelong progress. I am a certified PREPARE/ENRICH facilitator. I am also a certified provider of the Program for the Education and Enrichment of Relational Skills (PEERS®).

The clients I'm best positioned to serve

I work with women struggling with relationships, singleness, dating, marriage and divorce. I also specialize in working with adults with Autism and parents of children with Autism. In all of these situations my clients may be eager to improve or grow, but don't yet have the tools needed to make this goal a reality. My clients often feel stuck or overwhelmed and need a neutral party to work through life's challenges.

My treatment methods

Christian Counseling

I have a ThM which is a 4-year master's degree in theology. In my counseling sessions, I believe it is important to integrate best-practices in psychology with biblical and theological truths which enables myself as the counselor and you to address the entire person: body, mind, soul, and strength. My passion is in walking with clients as they make decisions to trust God with their deepest hurts, fears, and hopes.

Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, CBT, is a form of treatment which I have used in my counseling sessions for 18 years. Numerous research studies suggest that CBT leads to significant improvement in functioning and quality of life. In counseling sessions, we will use CBT to recognize how your thoughts, feelings, and behaviors influence each other. CBT is an evidenced based treatment that has been shown to lead to significant improvement in functioning and quality of life.

Structural Family Therapy

This is a family therapy technique that helps change patterns of interactions and improve functioning within those systems. Establishing clear and appropriate boundaries are key in structural family therapy. When we address how family members relate to one another we will work to improve communication and relationships to create positive change within the system.

Shannon gives great advice and homework! She seems to know exactly how to help this new wife and first time mom balance career, family and other relationships without losing herself. I can't say enough good things about our exchanges and her effective use of our time together. I've only worked with her for 4 sessions and already feel the effects of our work. I can't believe what a positive impact these sessions have been; it definitely that I'm motivated to do the homework.
