Marjie is a licensed professional clinical counselor who is passionate about helping people. With a masters degree in clinical mental health and art therapy Marjie brings a unique set of tools to each session. Marjie has gained experience over the last 11 years working in community mental health, foster care, a hospice setting, acute psychiatric inpatient, working with those with severe mental illness in an outpatient setting, and private practice outpatient. Marjie sees mental health counseling as a great catalyst to support people as they adapt, grow, cope, and heal. She views her job as a helping position where she comes alongside her clients to both assess the problem they are seeking help with, develop goals, and ultimately achieve them. This consists of a great deal of empathy, listening, support, and challenge. Marjie is very serious about faith and can readily facilitate faith based counseling when requested. Other specializations include but are not limited to the following: Trauma: By utilizing EMDR therapy (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing). This is an extensively researched, effective psychotherapy method proven to help people recover from trauma and PTSD symptoms resulting from any distressing event. Anxiety Depression ADHD Marital tools to support a healthy relationship Parenting tools and skills Stress management Grief Self-esteem and identity Support, tools, and experience with psychiatric medication withdrawal Holistic mind-body-spirit approach to treating psychiatric health

What can clients expect to take away from sessions with you?

We will review your intake, go over some basics of what to expect, and start working on the goals you'd like to achieve.

Explain to clients what areas you feel are your biggest strengths.

Marjie has a long history of dealing with, and in many ways overcoming anxiety. Marjie has an extensive understanding of both the benefits and deficiencies of treatments related to the disorder. For people who have a desire to treat anxiety apart from medication, Marjie can assist with this journey. For those who prefer medication, Marjie can assist with that as well. Marjie is a wife and mother of 3. Her family is blended and as a result, Marjie has real life experience with the struggles associated with parenting and step-parenting. Marjie is an active member in her church and finds her relationship with God to be the most formative thing in her life. While she will never push faith based matters on anyone, she is open to incorporating faith based values upon request.

My treatment methods

EMDR

"EMDR is a structured therapy that encourages the patient to focus briefly on the trauma memory while simultaneously experiencing bilateral stimulation (typically eye movements), which is associated with a reduction in the vividness and emotion associated with the trauma memories. Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) therapy is an extensively researched, effective psychotherapy method proven to help people recover from trauma and PTSD symptoms. Ongoing research supports positive clinical outcomes showing EMDR therapy as a helpful treatment for disorders such as anxiety, depression, OCD, chronic pain, addictions, and other distressing life experiences (Maxfield, 2019). EMDR therapy has even been superior to Prozac in trauma treatment (Van der Kolk et al., 2007). Shapiro and Forrest (2016) share that more than 7 million people have been treated successfully by 110,000 therapists in 130 countries since 2016." -EMDRIA

Person-centered (Rogerian)

Focusing on the person, not just their symptoms, and taking a "helper" approach.

Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)

When we change the way we think, we change how we feel. When we change how we feel and think, we change our behaviors. CBT is great for challenging our thinking and finding effective solutions for both depression and anxiety.
