About me

I am a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist, in Kentucky. I have over 13 years of experience in healthcare and mental health. I work with individuals, families, and couples across the life span. I typically see clients ages 14 and above. I have had success with short term (3-5 sessions) and long term (weekly or bi-weekly) therapy sessions. I provide couples counseling services as a Prepare and Enrich provider, and a Gottman-informed therapist. I also offer Premarital Counseling services. I offer assessments and will work with you to advocate for your individual needs with your medical providers, workplace or school.

Get to know me

In our first session together, here's what you can expect

Many times getting in the door is the most difficult part. The first session it is important for me to identify your goals and create a plan for achieving these over the course of treatment. Once we meet I will spend at least the first 30 minutes asking you questions about your life and circumstances. This way we can get to know each other and establish a sense of trust and respect with one another. You are welcome to ask questions and share your concerns. I encourage you to speak freely, respectfully and intentionally. I agree to do the same.

The biggest strengths that I bring into our sessions

My therapeutic approach is individualized and holistic. I believe and personally practice the philosophy that if one part of our lives is unwell, then all parts will suffer. In the same way, if one part of our lives is well and thriving this will benefit all other areas. There is no such thing as perfect. You can find peace and health by living a healthy and happy imperfect life. Finding your strengths, and surrounding yourself with quality support and healthy habits are an essential part to moving toward a better life.

The clients I'm best positioned to serve

I have enjoyed working with so many different people from incredibly diverse lives. My experiences and specialties include supporting you through various life stressors. I have helped many find improvement and relief from anxiety, depression, obsessive compulsive disorder, ADHD, trauma and other mental health conditions. Some of my specialties include grief and bereavement, spirituality and recovering from religious trauma, adoption and supporting caregivers.

My treatment methods

Attachment-based

Attachment based therapy invites the individual to reflect on previous important or difficult relationships to understand how these experiences influence current relationship dynamics.

Compassion Focused

Using a foundation of compassion I endeavor to create a client-centered safe space and therapeutic relationship. Compassion for one's self can be a difficult skill to build, however, cultivating self-compassion can be a transformative foundation for healing.

Trauma Informed Care

Trauma leaves a complex physiological, emotional and neurological mark. As a professional therapist I am able to work with individuals to process, reframe and heal from these traumatic experiences. I incorporate a justice based philosophy to empower individuals to break free from guilt and shame which can be related to trauma. Healing from trauma can improve overall physical, emotional, mental and spiritual well-being.

Culturally Sensitive Therapy

It is my privilege to provide you the best of care which honors your unique individual history, culture, identity and ethnicity. I believe these unique parts of you are vital to a rich and meaningful therapeutic experience. It has been my privilege to have spent the last 20 years as a professional with diverse populations including Latinix, Native-Hawaiian and Pacific Islander, African American, diverse world religions, LGBTQIA+, chronic illness and disability as well as hospice care.

Strength-Based

As a therapist I work intentionally to identify your own individual strengths, resiliency and power. Healing, growth and change are achieved by you, with your own strengths and abilities. As a therapist I join with you to help clarify your goals, learn how to stop ineffective habits or behaviors, and find new ways to achieve your goals that are genuine and authentic to you.

I was stressed out the whole day before my first appointment, mostly because I didn't know what to expect, but Jessica made everything easy and welcoming and I felt like I was talking to a friend by the end of the session.
