Hi there! I’m Vanessa Sewell, a Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor and the owner of Boheme Holistic Clinical Services. I earned my bachelor’s degrees in Psychology and History from Western Kentucky University, and my master’s in Counseling and Human Development from Lindsey Wilson College. I’m currently working on my doctorate in Counselor Education and Supervision at Lindsey Wilson University (and yes, they did change the name!). I have spent time counseling individuals from ages 4-80 in community mental health, foster care, inpatient behavioral health, geriatric services, and school settings for the last 6+ years. I have worked in the mental health field for more than 15 years.
In our first session together, here's what you can expect
Our first session is all about getting to know each other and seeing if we’re a good fit. I like to learn about who you are and what brings you in, and to find some common ground along the way. This helps you decide if you feel comfortable with me and if I’m someone you can trust and work with. Therapy is a team effort, and this first meeting is your chance to see if we work well together. In future sessions, we’ll focus on using different tools and approaches to help you reach your goals. And if your goals change at any point-which is not uncommon-we can always talk about it and adjust as we go.
The biggest strengths that I bring into our sessions
One of my greatest strengths is the variety of experience I bring from working in different areas of the mental health field. I’ve seen a lot, learned a lot, and picked up a pretty good understanding of the many challenges people face along the way. I also bring a strong sense of empathy-and just enough humor to help things feel a little less heavy when appropriate. All of that helps me genuinely understand where you’re coming from so we can work together to create a realistic, achievable plan that actually fits your life.
Person-centered (Rogerian)
Person-centered therapy allows you to explore your situation and work to develop solutions through your own understanding of yourself. This means that I'm a sounding board for you, and I give unconditional positive regard and eliminate judgement while we work out what's going on. It comes with a whole lot of empathy and allows me to be genuine with you.
Adlerian
Adlerian therapy includes engagement, assessment, insight, and reorientation. That means I get to engage with you with high empathy and encouragement while we look back at your past experiences to understand where you are now. That helps us understand your current behaviors and how to redirect them to help you move in a more positive direction.
Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)
Cognitive Behavioral therapy suggests that our thoughts, feelings, and behaviors are all interrelated. When we start to change one, we can redirect the others, and positive changes start to happen. We all have certain thoughts and feelings about ourselves that sometimes don't serve us, even if they did in the past. CBT helps to change those patterns and lead to positive perspectives.
Dialectical Behavior (DBT)
Dialectical Behavior Therapy is the ability to "hold two truths at once." It changes the word "but" to the word "and" and gives us the ability to accept our situation while working to make it more manageable. It balances emotions and rationality at the same time, so when we experience negative thoughts and feelings, we can still move forward successfully.

I was very nervous to start counseling. Within a few minutes the nerves went away. I feel like she really listened and connected with me.

Talking with Ms. Sewell was very easy. I felt very comfortable with her! She also validated everything I felt and talked with me to try and get down to the root of the problem! She’s awesome

I was nervous going in as one is before therapy. Vanessa was very warm and made it easy for me to share. She also made me feel like she understood my goals what I was trying to communicate.
