My name is Carlos Izquierdo, and I am a Licensed Mental Health Counselor in the state of Florida. I work with individuals who are struggling with anxiety, depression, relationship challenges, and other difficulties that may leave them feeling stuck or overwhelmed.
I believe that many psychological struggles are not signs of something being “wrong” with us, but rather the result of patterns and strategies that may have once served a purpose but are no longer helping us move forward. Therapy can provide an opportunity to understand these patterns, develop new perspectives, and discover more effective ways of responding to life’s challenges.
My goal is to create a supportive and collaborative space where you can explore what is holding you back, recognize your strengths, and develop more flexible and creative ways of navigating difficult situations. I see challenges not simply as problems to eliminate, but as opportunities for greater self-understanding, personal growth, and meaningful change.
People often come to therapy carrying emotional pain, life stressors, or patterns they’ve been struggling with for a long time. I work with individuals from diverse and multicultural backgrounds who are navigating challenges related to mental health, substance use, and co-occurring disorders.
My approach is person-centered and collaborative, rooted in the belief that you are the expert of your own life and experiences. I strive to create a supportive, nonjudgmental space where clients feel heard, respected, and empowered to grow. Drawing from my experience in both outpatient and residential treatment settings, I focus on building a strong therapeutic relationship that fosters trust, insight, healing, and meaningful change.

I have found that describing myself had never been a skill I have mastered throughout my years of experience. It just feels awkward, so I embrace the awkward. I would say that is how I approach the therapeutic relationship as well. I laugh at the absurd and try to make the awkwardness a friend. I name it so we can work with it in an authentic nonjudgemental manner. I always ask my clients to give therapy a chance and the therapist a chance as well. I say move on if by session three you are not "feeling it" with the therapist. It is okay if you don't like me as a therapist. This is your journey and I am your guide. The journey needs to be with someone who you connect with.
