New to Grow
Hello, My name is Allison and Ive been a practicing LCSW for over 8 year. I believe that therapy should be a safe, supportive, and nonjudgmental space where you can feel heard and understood. I also want to address and work on problems, gain better systemic understanding to work on the roots of how these problems came to be and when they may have really started. I believe we start to form ourselves and experiences always in childhood first. That being said we still have to work in the now.
I'm always going to ask you what's bringing you into therapy, and then we go from there. You tell me what's on your mind, what you want to talk about and then we can explore what's going on in your life and probably go into some of your history.
I bring empathy, active listening, and a nonjudgmental presence to each session. I want my clients to feel genuinely heard and understood, creating a space where they can be comfortable sharing their thoughts and emotions openly. Building a strong therapeutic relationship is important to me because I believe trust and connection are essential to meaningful therapeutic work. Another strength I bring is curiosity. I take time to understand the whole person rather than focusing only on the presenting concern. I am interested in learning about my clients’ strengths, relationships, life experiences, values, and the factors that may be influencing their current challenges. I often want to find solutions, better coping or understanding for my clients. I use an eclectic style, which means I draw from different therapeutic theories and techniques rather than relying on one approach for every client. I believe that each person is unique, and therapy should be flexible but also on point.
An ideal client is someone who wants to talk about their problems, is wants to potentially track problems when not in session. They are willing to explore their feelings and thoughts, especially the ones they want to dismiss. They're willing to receive some amount of feed back or guidance, and be okay with the concept of finding better ways to cop, adapt and grow as a person. My favorite therapy joke; "How many therapist does it take to change a light bulb? one, but the bulb has to want to change"
I incorporate psychodynamic therapy into my practice to help clients develop a deeper understanding of themselves and the patterns that may be influencing their thoughts, emotions, relationships, and behaviors. I believe that our current experiences are sometimes connected to earlier life experiences, relationships, and emotions that may not always be fully conscious or understood.
help clients develop a healthier relationship with difficult thoughts, emotions, and life experiences. Rather than trying to eliminate uncomfortable feelings or avoid situations that create distress, ACT helps clients learn how to make room for difficult emotions while continuing to move toward the things that are meaningful to them.
CBT helsp clients understand the connection between their thoughts, emotions, and behaviors. CBT is based on the idea that the way we interpret situations can influence how we feel and how we respond. By becoming more aware of these patterns, clients can begin to develop healthier and more balanced ways of thinking and responding.
