I am a licensed professional clinical counselor licensed in California with over seven years of experience working as a psychotherapist. I have worked with clients with a wide range of concerns including depression, anxiety, relationship issues, trauma, personality disorders, and substance use.
My counseling style is warm and interactive. I believe in treating everyone with respect, sensitivity, and compassion, and I don't believe in stigmatizing labels. My approach combines cognitive-behavioral, EMDR and TRM, and dialectical behavioral counseling.
It takes courage to reach out and take the first steps towards a change. If you are ready to take that step I am here to support and empower you. I look forward to working with you!
I’m a first-generation, Vietnamese, transgender, and queer therapist who brings both professional training and lived experience to the work. My approach is rooted in empathy, curiosity, and a deep respect for each person’s unique story.
In my practice, I often draw from EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) to help clients process trauma and experiences in a way that feels restorative. EMDR supports the brain’s natural healing by using bilateral stimulation—like eye or auditory movements —to reprocess memories and reduce their emotional intensity.
I also use Narrative Therapy, which invites clients to explore the stories they’ve been told or have come to believe about themselves. Together, we uncover how those stories were shaped—by culture, relationships, systems, or past experiences—and work toward reclaiming narratives that center resilience, agency, and authenticity.
I understand the importance of creating a space where clients feel seen, affirmed, and safe to show up as their full selves. Whether you’re navigating trauma, identity exploration, or simply seeking to reconnect with yourself, I’m here support you in that process with care, collaboration, and accountability.
Are you looking for a mental health letter for gender-affirming surgery? I write those! Feel free to reach out for short-term therapy services to complete the letter assessment process with me.
My practice uses old fashioned, human-generated tools and information methodically accumulated over years of community and evidenced based research. I do not use AI programs at any point in the therapeutic process.
*I am not currently accepting family, couples, or group counseling inquiries*

I'm Kristen LCSW & I've spent decades helping others navigate through the difficult times in their life.
My career started in the mid-2000's as a Special Ed teacher at an all boys' residential behavior mod program, when after about 5yrs I realized that education was the surface of their issues and that I wanted to become a therapist. Which is what I did. Went to Rutgers grad school, worked 5yrs prison re-entry, then 5yrs dual dx IOP, before moving into my current role in private practice.
I’m a licensed marriage & family therapist offering short-term therapy to individuals who feel overwhelmed, anxious, burned out, or disconnected underneath. My approach is humanistic and insight-oriented, grounded in curiosity, warmth, and deep respect for your lived experience. I believe therapy is not about fixing you — it’s about helping you understand yourself more clearly so you can move through life with greater intention, resilience, and connection.
Greetings to All -
I began the journey to become a therapist after leaving the military and battling cancer. I have been seeing clients since 2009 and have worked with children, adults, couples, veterans, and all manner of presenting issues. I specialize in helping people recover from trauma and especially complex or relational trauma. My style is to engage you with thought provoking questions, challenge disempowering thoughts and narratives, bolster your self care and self esteem, and help you value yourself in the same way you would someone you respect and admire.
I'm a queer, feminist therapist who creates a warm, affirming space for clients navigating body image concerns and eating disorders. My approach is rooted in Health at Every Size (HAES) and LGBTQ+ affirming care, with a deep belief that therapy should feel both supportive and empowering. I’m here to help you not just get through the hard weeks, but to feel seen, heard, and equipped with tools to move through life with more ease. I know how vulnerable it can be to seek help—especially around food and body image—and I strive to offer a space where you can be your full self without judgment.
In addition to talk therapy, I also offer EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing), a powerful, evidence-based approach that helps process and heal from trauma, distressing memories, and deeply rooted beliefs that may be holding you back.
ACCEPTING NEW CLIENTS: Please message for a phone consult prior to scheduling to see if we are a good fit.

Life moves fast and sometime we can’t keep up. Sometimes we don’t feel like we can talk to others for fear of judgment. Do you feel overwhelmed? Do you withdraw and shut down when you are struggling? Do you have thoughts come at you a mile a minute? Do those same thoughts take off into uncharted territory? It’s not uncommon, and you don’t have to feel that way forever. You might not have the tools to sort out or process these emotions. Maybe you know some skills, and are unsure how to or when to use them. These are just a few reasons why people seek therapy and I provide a supportive, non-judgmental and encouraging environment.

Hey thereI I'm Michelle, a Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor, treating Asian American adults from the ages of 18-40 in the state of California. I am a psychosomatic therapist- a fancy way to say that I treat clients through a bottom-up, somatic (mind-body connection) approach. I care a lot about helping clients reach new heights with their self-love and self-care because of how these approaches have changed me in my own life. Check out the "My treatment method" tab for more information!
Hello and welcome to my page! While I'd like to say that I'm here to solve all of your problems, I am not. My role as a therapist is to provide a safe space for you to express your thoughts/feelings, gain insight and bravery so you can create the life you deserve by mitigating the intrusive thoughts and feeling of overwhelmness.
Welcome to my profile. My name is Kawanna Gritney and i’m a Licensed Marriage & Family Therapist specializing in helping individuals and couples heal the emotional patterns that keep them stuck. My individual therapy work focuses on healing past trauma using Attachment-Focused EMDR (AF-EMDR)—a powerful, research-supported method that transforms long-standing pain at its root rather than simply managing symptoms. Clients often choose this treatment when they’re ready to drastically reduce/eliminate symptoms, attain deeper healing, gain relief from persistent triggers, and develop a renewed sense of self. This service is usually fully covered by insurance, making trauma treatment both accessible and sustainable.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I also specialize in marriage and couples counseling for partners who want to strengthen their connection, repair trust, communicate more effectively, manage conflict or prepare for a healthy future together before marriage. I use the Gottman Method, one of the most respected and proven approaches for improving relationship dynamics. My work with couples focuses on the relationship system—the patterns between you—rather than diagnosing one partner or treating pathology. Because this service is relational rather than medical, insurance does not cover the type of couples/marriage counseling I provide. If you and your partner are interested in receiving couples/marriage counseling you can schedule your 55 min assessment sessions (3 assessment sessions in total) on the GROW platform for $170/assessment session. Once you enter the treatment phase of your couples/marriage counseling, treatment sessions are 90 mins and $260/session.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
For couples preparing for marriage, I offer a 4-hour virtual premarital counseling course grounded in decades of research on what makes relationships last. This course helps couples build essential skills—communication, conflict management, emotional connection, shared meaning, and teamwork—to create a strong foundation for a long-lasting marriage. Consultations are scheduled on the GROW platform for $170. The entire program is $497.

My own healing journey, combined with my service background and professional training, has shaped an integrative, trauma-informed approach to therapy that honors the interconnectedness of mind, body, and spirit. I am an EMDRIA-trained EMDR therapist and offer evidence-based trauma treatment to help clients process and heal from painful life experiences.
I specialize in supporting individuals navigating anxiety, depression, grief, trauma, relationship challenges, life transitions, and the emotional impact of serious health diagnoses. Whether you're coping with the aftermath of trauma or facing a new chapter in life, I offer a collaborative, supportive space focused on strengthening your resilience, restoring your sense of self, and promoting lasting emotional well-being.
