Hello, my name is Ritika Kaur. I am a Licensed Marriage & Family Therapist in California (License #101199) providing psychotherapy services in English and Punjabi. I utilize evidence-based approaches to help individuals navigate life's challenges and find hope, healing, and well-being.
I was drawn to the mental health field by a deep desire to help others overcome adversity and lead fulfilling lives. After earning my Master's in Counseling Psychology from National University in 2011, I gained diverse experience in community mental health, substance use treatment, and providing evidence-based services before becoming licensed in California in 2017.
I am a Queer, Black Woman who has over 38 years of experience working in mental health field and healing. I began my career in 1986 as a Registered Music Therapist then transitioned to working as a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist in 2002. I have worked with a wide range of clients from preschool-aged children to elders in multiple settings. Whereas I love working with people of various identities, I specialize in helping Black Womxn (cis, nonbinary, trans) and LGBTQ+ folx recover from trauma. I absolutely love helping folx move past barriers so that they can live fulfilling lives. I am deeply honored to support the beauty that is within each person. My work is strengths-based and collaborative. Using EMDR, expressive arts therapies (e.g., music, art, writing), play therapy, mindfulness-based therapy, self-love, and community-care practices, I provide opportunities for people to see themselves as so much more than what has happened to them. Instead of living the smaller lives that trauma imposes, people with whom I work can create lives that are expansive, grounded and rooted in true values.

My journey to becoming a therapist started 29 years ago on a personal recovery journey, recovering from personal trauma and addiction in the entire system growing up including family, and coming from a low SES background, therapy became a way to reconcile the change I was going through in my life. Working with and helping others has always been a calling of mine, and becoming a therapist was a natural extension of that ongoing work on both myself and in my work with others.
Beginning with a humanistic approach means meeting the client where they are at, and then conceptualizing the approach with a combination of humanistic and positive psychology, systems theory, and recovery-oriented systems of care.

I someone who is grounded in the natural world and systems around me. I use the natural systems of our surroundings to inform my personal and clinical work. I understand on a deep level how challenging and out of control life can feel at times. I personally have found it lifesaving to rely on a power greater than myself in times of confusion and feeling lost. I believe fully in the capabilities and self-knowledge that my clients already have inside themselves. My work as a non-pathologizing, Humanistic Gestalt Psychotherapist is client centered and strength based. I work relationally and rely on Transpersonal, Jungian, and EcoPsychology roots as pillars of guidance. I use somatic techniques, parts work, poetry and mindfulness exercises to support the expansion of present moment awareness. I may also use dream-work, inner child work and CBT to facilitate a different angle of self-discovery.
Whoever you are, and wherever you have come from, please know that you are welcome here. Your healing journey or path of self-discovery will be as unique as you are... I welcome all races, classes, religions, sexual orientations, gender expressions, nuero-divserities, cultures, able-isms, sexualities, and bodies. I use a trauma informed, all-inclusive social justice lens and aim to draw awareness to systems of oppression that manifest in sneaky ways in our everyday encounters.
I work with individual, couples and children. In the past I have worked with edlers, healers, sensitive types, activists, athletes, multicultural backgrounds, and people who have experienced corporate burnout.
As a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist, I work with adults and children who feel overwhelmed, emotionally drained, or disconnected from themselves. You may be doing everything you can to keep going—showing up for work or school, caring for others, and managing daily life—while quietly carrying anxiety, sadness, anger, or deep exhaustion. Sometimes your reactions feel bigger than expected. Sometimes life just doesn’t feel like it used to.
I specialize in trauma-informed care and understand that these experiences are not signs of weakness. They are often signs that your mind and body have been working hard to cope. I believe healing happens when you feel safe, understood, and supported at your own pace.
In our work together, I offer a calm and steady presence. Therapy with me is not about pushing you to “just move on” or forcing change before you’re ready. It’s about slowing down, listening to what your mind and body are holding, and creating space for relief and clarity. My role is to walk alongside you as you regain a sense of stability and reconnect with the part of you that holds resilience, strength, and the capacity for joy—even if that feels far away right now.
I am a down-to-earth and collaborative therapist who believes that the foundation of effective healing is a genuine, honest connection. I prioritize creating a transparent environment where you feel heard and respected, allowing us to work as true partners in your mental health journey. My approach is grounded in the belief that therapy is most effective when it is practical, straightforward, and focused on your unique reality.
In our sessions, I value honesty and the identification of healthy, realistic goals. I specialize in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), where we work together to uncover the connection between your thoughts, emotions, and behaviors. By identifying irrational thinking patterns and challenging negative self-talk, we can begin to reframe your narrative in a way that serves your growth rather than hindering it.
I understand that starting therapy can feel like a significant step, which is why I focus on providing a non-judgmental space where we can tackle challenges at your pace. Whether you are dealing with anxiety, daily stress, or life transitions, my goal is to provide you with a functional toolkit of strategies you can use long after our sessions end. Together, we will move toward a more balanced, resilient, and fulfilling life.
Hi! It’s nice to meet you, and I’m glad you’re considering therapy. I am a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist with over 20 years of experience providing trauma-informed mental health care to individuals, couples, and families. I earned my Bachelor’s degree in Health and Human Services in 1999 and my Master of Science in Counseling with an emphasis in Marriage and Family Therapy in 2005, both from California State University, Fresno.
My clinical experience has focused primarily on working with children and families navigating complex relational and emotional challenges, including divorce, co-parenting, and the trauma often associated with disrupted family dynamics. I also have extensive experience providing couples counseling, with a particular focus on understanding how trauma and attachment injuries impact communication, emotional safety, and relational patterns.
I am a certified EMDR therapist and specialize in trauma-based treatment. I integrate evidence-based approaches to help clients process distressing experiences, reduce trauma-related symptoms, and develop healthier coping strategies and emotional regulation skills. My therapeutic work is grounded in empathy, cultural responsiveness, and an understanding of the broader social and relational contexts that influence mental health.
My professional background is rooted in community mental health, where I gained extensive experience treating individuals, couples, and families struggling with anxiety, depression, and trauma-related disorders. This foundation has shaped my commitment to providing clinically sound and culturally relevant care.
In my work, I strive to create a safe, supportive, and collaborative therapeutic environment where clients feel seen, heard, and empowered. My goal is to support meaningful healing, resilience, and lasting change.
Finding the right therapist is often the most difficult step in the healing journey. It requires finding a balance between someone who deeply understands the science of the mind and someone who genuinely cares about the person sitting across from them. With 13 years of clinical practice, I have dedicated my career to being that balance for my clients.
My approach is rooted in the belief that while our pasts shape us, they do not have to define our future. I specialize in two of the most effective, evidence-based frameworks available today: Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT).
Through CBT, we work together to identify and reshape the thought patterns that keep you feeling stuck, anxious, or overwhelmed. We look at the "why" behind your actions and replace old, automatic responses with intentional, healthy choices. Through DBT, I help you build a concrete toolkit for emotional regulation, distress tolerance, and interpersonal effectiveness. Whether you are navigating intense emotional "storms" or simply looking to improve the quality of your relationships, these skills provide a roadmap for stability.
Over a decade of practice has taught me that there is no "one-size-fits-all" solution. I view our work as a collaborative partnership; you are the expert on your life, and I am here to provide the clinical expertise and objective perspective to help you navigate it. My goal is to move beyond just "venting" and toward tangible, lasting change.
I provide a non-judgmental, warm, and structured environment where you can feel safe to explore your vulnerabilities while being challenged to grow. Together, we won't just talk about the life you want—we will build the skills necessary to live it.
