I was born in the US, but I was raised in Mexico. I lived in Tijuana for 10 years when my parents decided to move us across the border to Chula Vista, California. As a first-generation Mexican-American, I experienced a duality of cultures. I was often judged for either being “not Mexican enough” OR “not American enough.” I also faced enormous pressure to be successful – to justify my parents’ having left their beloved country so my sibling and I could have a better life. This is one of many reasons I decided to follow this path: to help those who feel alone in their journey. That’s how I felt when acculturating to this country. I earned my Bachelor of Social Work (BSW) at San Diego State University (SDSU). I was going to go directly into the workforce and eventually go back for my master’s, but an awesome professor challenged me to apply right away so I wouldn’t lose momentum. So, that’s what I did. I ended up getting my Master of Social Work (MSW) at the University of Southern California. It took some time and courage to finish all my licensing requirements, but it was worth it! I’ve been licensed as a clinical social worker in California since 2019. I am certified in Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and Trauma-Focused CBT.

I’m here to support you on your journey toward greater self-awareness and emotional well-being. In our individual sessions, we’ll explore how your past experiences shape your present feelings and behaviors, including any underlying self-doubt or anxiety. Together, we’ll examine the personal, relational, and cultural influences that have shaped your experiences, helping you develop a deeper understanding of yourself and your unique story. Using techniques from Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, Narrative Therapy, and Somatic Experiencing, we’ll address the feelings associated with anxiety and self-doubt. I believe that healing involves both understanding our experiences and reconnecting with the wisdom of the body. Through exploring the stories you hold about yourself, increasing awareness of physical and emotional responses, and developing practical tools for coping, we can create new pathways toward growth and resilience. Together, we’ll create a safe space where you can express yourself freely, explore new perspectives, reconnect with your values, celebrate your strengths, and begin to feel more grounded, connected, and open to life’s possibilities.

I am a therapist that shows up in session as my full self, finding the balance between informal and honest while also maintaining professionalism and accomplishing goals. I let the client lead, and very much am committed to the philosophy that the client is the expert on their own life. I hold two masters in counseling-related fields and have worked with college students and young adults for fifiteen years before transitioning to military veterans and trauma clients. I have experienced infidelity in my own marriage, and have done my own work to summit through trauma and grief. I'm a big believer that our pain shapes us and can be a conduit for growth if we let it. I approach therapy without a fixed approach, and rather look for ways to uniquely tailor modalities and interventions to the client's specific needs. I place a ton of value on the therapist-client relationship and don't ever want clients to dread therapy, but rather view it as a continuous safe space to be vulnerable without judgment and to make progress at their own pace. I recognize that fit is SO important, and fully affirm clients being intentional however they need to when picking a therapist.

I’m a Marriage & Family Therapist (LMFT) who offers a warm, grounded space to slow things down, make sense of what you’re experiencing, and create meaningful change. My style is relational and attachment-informed—meaning we pay attention to patterns that show up in relationships, and how earlier experiences may shape the way you cope, connect, or protect yourself today. I’m also strengths-based and practical: we’ll build on what’s already working while using CBT tools to reduce overwhelm, challenge unhelpful thought loops, and practice skills that support steadier mood, boundaries, and healthier relationships. The impact my clients often experience is feeling more emotionally stable and confident in themselves, with a clearer understanding of their triggers and patterns. Over time, many people report improved self-compassion, stronger communication, more secure attachment in relationships, and an increased ability to tolerate difficult emotions without shutting down or spiraling. My goal is for you to leave therapy with both deeper insight and real-life tools so you can feel more connected, empowered, and able to live with authenticity and intention.

A little about me: I’m a Licensed Clinical Social Worker who, come to find out, originally got into this field largely to figure myself out. If you’ve never heard that from a therapist before, it’s actually a pretty common thread among us, we often subconsciously step into healing others as a way to find healing within ourselves. About 22 years ago, I was diagnosed with Complex PTSD, and roughly 15 years ago, I received an OCD diagnosis. Having these two conditions overlap made things incredibly challenging throughout much of my life and if I’m being completely honest, navigating that balance can still have its moments today. But there’s something powerful about a wounded healer: we tend to want more for ourselves and for the people we serve than just standard, status-quo talk therapy. We dig deeper because we need real answers on a personal level, and once we find what works, we want to share it with the world.

With over to 20 years of experience working alongside children, teens, adults, and families, I’ve learned the importance of meeting people exactly where they are, whether mentally, emotionally, or sometimes even physically. My “out-of-the-box” approach is flexible and adaptable to each individual's unique needs, offering creative, client-centered strategies where you can feel safe, supported, and empowered to explore at your own pace. My journey began in community-based settings, working with individuals and families often navigating complex systems. My approach has always been to meet clients where they are, helping them discover healthier coping mechanisms and become more effective in their daily lives. Therapy with me is not one-size-fits-all. I'm an LCSW specializing in trauma, grief, attachment wounds, and anxiety. I help people understand why they react the way they do, so they can respond with greater clarity, confidence, and self trust. With over eight years of experience working with adults, young adults, and teens, I've helped clients navigate trauma, grief, anxiety, and the patterns that keep showing up no matter how hard they try to out think them. Therapy with me is collaborative, honest, and human. I show up as a real person who is warm, down to earth, and willing to gently challenge the patterns that are keeping you stuck when the time is right. I infuse our sessions with moments of humor when it helps create connection and ease, while also making space for the difficult conversations and emotions that deserve attention. I use evidence based approaches including EMDR, CBT, DBT, trauma informed care, and parts oriented work because they help create lasting change, not just insight. My goal is not for you to depend on therapy forever. My goal is to help you better understand yourself, trust yourself, and leave therapy with the confidence and tools to navigate life long after our work together ends.

I am a licensed Marriage and Family Therapist with extensive experience working with children, adolescents, individuals, couples, and families. I specialize in treating a range of concerns, including depression, anxiety, relationship challenges, family conflict, self-esteem issues, and life transitions. My approach is integrative and client-centered. I draw on evidence-based modalities such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), and Positive Psychotherapy to tailor treatment to each client’s unique needs. I use CBT to help clients identify and transform negative thought patterns that contribute to emotional distress. Through DBT, I support clients in developing emotion regulation skills and the capacity to balance acceptance with meaningful change. With Positive Psychotherapy and a strength-based lens, I empower individuals to recognize their inner resources, enhance coping skills, and explore new possibilities. I believe in creating a warm, safe, and collaborative therapeutic environment where you can explore new ways of thinking, overcome challenges, and move toward your goals—one step at a time. Let’s work together to create meaningful, lasting change for a better tomorrow.

My name is Ashley and I am a Marriage and Family Therapist. I graduated with my Masters in Psychology with an emphasis in Marriage and Family Therapy in 2021 but have been working in the field as a Clinical Therapist since 2020. I genuinely enjoy working with many different people, but I especially love individual therapy with clients who are a little neurospicy like me, parents and caregivers who feel burned out or stretched too thin, and people trying to heal from trauma or unhealthy relationship patterns. I’m very trauma-informed and values-oriented in my work. I like helping clients understand the “why” behind their emotions, behaviors, and patterns while also figuring out what kind of life and relationships actually feel aligned with who they are. I often work with ADHD, anxiety, attachment and relationship concerns, caregiver burnout, life transitions, and parents of children with special needs or higher support needs. I know therapy is not about having everything figured out. Sometimes it’s about finally having a place where you don’t have to perform, hold everything together, or explain why you’re exhausted. I try to bring warmth, honesty, humor when appropriate, and practical tools into the room while still giving you space to process at your own pace.

Frequently asked questions

When looking for online therapy, you can see anyone that is credentialed in California. We want you to find the best fit, therefore, Grow Therapy shows available therapists across California from San Francisco to San Diego! If you’d rather see someone in-person, you can change the filter from virtual and find a therapist near you in California.

When booking you’ll be asked to verify with your Member ID. However, if you don’t have any of the insurances available you can select cash. Our therapists will have their cost of appointment on their profile. Individual session costs will vary.

The specialty filter is optional. You don’t need to check any boxes to see a provider. However, fit is very important when selecting an online therapist. If you have knowledge or experience to recognize what specialties you may need. For example, your selected specialty, Anger Management, is filtering therapists in California that work with patients with similar concerns.

Finding a provider with a similar life experience can be beneficial because it can be easier to establish rapport and potentially be understood quicker and clearer.

Your first therapy session is for you and your therapist to meet each other and to ask any questions that you have about the counseling process. This is where you can expect your therapist to do the same as they will ask questions to gain insight into your specific situation. In this first session the therapist is doing their part to gather as much information so they can better assess if they are able to meet your therapeutic needs. Depending upon your provider's specialty, you may also discuss the methods the therapist will use. For additional information on therapy methods, please visit the Grow Therapy Help Center. Some people feel nervous before their first appointment, and that is totally normal! Coming prepared with a list of questions for your therapist may help. Remember, you're taking a brave step by seeking therapy, and it is okay to be nervous as you try something new.
