Makenna Jones
Hi there, I’m Makenna, a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist in California. There are times when life feels overwhelming, and carrying everything on your own can become exhausting. Whether you're facing anxiety, depression, relationship challenges, life transitions, or feeling uncertain about your next steps, therapy can provide a space to feel supported and gain a deeper understanding of yourself. I strive to create a warm, compassionate environment where you can feel comfortable being yourself and sharing your experiences without judgment. Together, we'll explore what's contributing to your current struggles, identify patterns that may be keeping you stuck, and develop practical tools to help you navigate challenges with greater confidence and clarity.
For those who desire it, I also incorporate a faith-based perspective, supporting both emotional healing and spiritual growth while focusing on lasting, real-life change.
I take a holistic approach to therapy and believe that emotional well-being is deeply connected to our physical, mental, and relational health. With a strong interest in the mind-body connection, I work with clients to explore ways of supporting healing and growth in a way that feels balanced, sustainable, and aligned with their unique needs. My goal is to help you build resilience, strengthen your relationship with yourself, and create meaningful, lasting change.
First session
Starting therapy can feel like a big step, and it’s completely normal to feel a mix of emotions going into your first session. My goal is to create a space where you feel safe, comfortable, and truly heard. We'll move at a pace that feels right for you while exploring the challenges, emotions, and experiences that have been impacting your life. Together, we'll work to better understand what's contributing to your struggles and identify meaningful ways to move forward. If it’s important to you, we can incorporate your faith into our work together in a way that feels meaningful and respectful. My hope is that you leave each session feeling understood, supported, and with greater clarity, confidence, and direction. Most importantly, this is your space—to be honest, to be heard, and to begin the process of healing and growth.
Strengths
I bring a balance of warmth, compassion, and evidence-based care, creating a space where clients feel safe, understood, and supported in doing meaningful work. I integrate EMDR, CBT, DBT, Solution-Focused therapy, and attachment-based therapy in a personalized way, helping clients process trauma, build practical skills, and better understand their patterns and relationships. For those who desire it, I also incorporate a faith-based Christian perspective, supporting both emotional healing and spiritual growth while focusing on lasting, real-life change.
Ideal clients
I work best with individuals who are looking to gain deeper insight into themselves and move toward lasting, meaningful change. Many of my clients come in feeling overwhelmed, stuck, or weighed down by anxiety, past experiences, relationship struggles, or life transitions, and are seeking both practical tools and deeper healing. I connect well with clients who are open to the process of self-exploration and growth, whether they’re new to therapy or returning to it.
Treatment methods
EMDR
I use EMDR to help clients safely process and heal from past trauma and distressing experiences so they no longer feel stuck or overwhelmed in the present.
Christian Counseling
I incorporate Christian counseling by integrating faith, biblical principles, and spiritual support into therapy when it aligns with a client’s beliefs and desires.
Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)
I use CBT to help clients recognize and shift unhelpful thought patterns, leading to healthier emotions and more effective behaviors.
Dialectical Behavior (DBT)
I use DBT skills to help clients build emotional regulation, distress tolerance, mindfulness, and healthier interpersonal relationships.
Motivational Interviewing
I use motivational interviewing to support clients in exploring ambivalence, strengthening internal motivation, and making meaningful, lasting changes.
