About me

I am a licensed Clinical Psychologist located in the Bay Area, California with a Doctorate in Clinical Psychology and a Master's in Sport Psychology. My clinical specialities are eating disorder treatment, sport psychology and general mental health challenges such as, anxiety and depression. I am a former professional cheerleader in the NFL and multi-collegiate athlete who specializes in sport psychology and works closely with adolescent and adult athletes to enhance their athletic performance. In addition to my sport psychology specialty, I have extensive experience working with eating disorder clients and families as a former Clinical Director for eating disorder treatment facilities at several levels of clinical care (Outpatient, IOP, PHP, Residential). Aside from my clinical career, I am currently a professional choreographer for NFL, NBA and Collegiate dance teams. Whether on the dance floor or in the therapy room, I believe in creating a safe, inclusive space where every client feels heard and respected. With a strong focus on confidence and inner balance, I tailor my therapeutic approach to meet each person where they are and empower them to overcome obstacles. *PLEASE NOTE: I ACCEPT KAISER CLIENTS. You must call Kaiser directly in order to book with me*

In our first session together, here's what you can expect

In our first session, we will build rapport with each other and explore some of your most prominent personal challenges. This allows me to gain a better understanding of you and the different factors playing a key role in your presenting problems.

The biggest strengths that I bring into our sessions

My greatest strengths as a psychologist lie in my ability to connect with clients, empower them, and demonstrate cultural competency. I am committed to equipping individuals with the skills and tools they need to enhance their quality of life and achieve lasting well-being.

The clients I'm best positioned to serve

I specialize in working with adolescents and adults facing eating disorders, athletic performance challenges, and general mental health concerns. As a former professional cheerleader in the NFL, collegiate athlete, and current professional choreographer, I deeply understand the unique pressures and mental challenges that athletes face. With my extensive experience as a Clinical Director at eating disorder treatment facilities and a sport psychologist, I’ve had the privilege of guiding both individuals and athletic teams toward healing, growth, and performance optimization. My therapeutic work integrates the mind, body, and emotions to support clients in finding balance and achieving their personal goals. I also emphasize a family systems approach for adolescent clients with eating disorders, fostering a supportive environment that promotes healing and empowers clients to make lasting strides toward recovery.

My treatment methods

Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)

I utilize CBT for eating disorder treatment, sport psychology interventions, anxiety management and depression. I specifically have extensive experience as a Clinical Director for eating disorder treatment facilities helping clients and families navigate the complexities of eating disorders. In addition, I specialize in sport psychology, working with athletes to apply proven techniques that elevate their performance. As a former professional athlete, I deeply understand the pressures of competitive sports and connect with athletes on a personal level, guiding them to unlock their full potential.

Strength-Based

I utilize strength-based therapy, which focuses on identifying and leveraging clients inherent strengths, resources, and resilience to help them overcome challenges and reach their goals. Rather than concentrating solely on problems or weaknesses, my approach highlights the positive qualities they already possess such as, coping skills, past successes, or personal values etc. I believe that everyone has the capacity for growth, and by focusing on clients strengths, we can work together to build confidence and empower clients to make meaningful change.

Humanistic

In my work, I practice humanistic therapy, which is grounded in the belief that every person has the innate capacity for growth, healing, and self-actualization. I take a client-centered approach, meaning I focus on the client as a whole person. In doing humanistic work, I believe in creating a safe, non-judgmental space where clients feel heard, valued, and understood, allowing them to explore and express themselves freely.

What I love about my therapist is we go through different emotions but also in way that its more real and empowering and also solution oriented. Its one of those that I've always found difficulty searching for and needing so I'm beyond thankful in Dr. Kayla! She is amazing!

Dr. Kayla, reminds me a lot of my relatives and my previous therapist. She made me feel more at ease, hearing me out and then instead of just telling me this or that, she gave me more of a vibe that feels more warm and calming! I'm excited to move forward with her as my therapist!
