Julia Rodner
I am a warm and compassionate therapist, and I strive to create a space where clients feel seen, heard, and valued. With interest and empathy, I honor clients' life experiences and their values. I'm driven by curiosity and a strong drive to make meaningful connections with people, and I believe that feeling understood and accepted is an important part of the therapeutic process. While I'll occasionally use humor and lightness in sessions, I take the work I do and the impact I have on clients with utmost seriousness. I’m constantly evaluating my work and am not afraid to acknowledge when I may have made a mistake and work hard to figure out how to correct it and learn from it. I strive to bring openness, authenticity, and compassion to the therapeutic relationship and to meet each client where they are.
First session
One of the most important parts of a therapeutic relationship is feeling trust and a connection with the therapist. Our first session together will allow you to get a sense of whether we are a good fit. People often feel nervous before their first session with a new therapist and so my goal to is help you feel as comfortable as possible. I will ask you questions about what brought you to therapy, what your current challenges are, what you would like to see change or improve in your life, and what strengths and strategies have helped you survive up until this point.
Strengths
I am a good listener and value providing a space for clients to share their stories. I listen closely to what is said and the underlying meanings that may have yet to be spoken. I have an eye for seeing people's strengths and like to collaborate on how to use those strengths to navigate life's challenges. I am able to tailor my therapeutic approach to each individual.
Ideal clients
I work well with clients who struggle with overwhelming worries and fears, those who struggle with the heaviness and darkness of depression, and those who have, despite their best efforts, been unable to unshackle themselves from painful life experiences. I love working with clients who are willing to explore new perspectives and, with plenty of support, experiment with new ways of doing things.
Treatment methods
Integrative
My therapy practice is grounded in a mindfulness-based cognitive-behavioral therapy with a trauma-informed approach that emphasizes warmth, compassion, and humor. I adopt a holistic approach that is rooted in the understanding that mental health is entwined with relationships, environment, and physical health. I help clients understand how once-adaptive behaviors may no longer serve them and work with clients to identify their strengths and values, and develop more intentional responses to life’s challenges.
