Hello, I am a Licensed Marriage and Family therapist (LMFT) in the state of California. University of California, Berkeley (UCB) for the AB in English and University of San Francisco (USF) in Counseling. Because of my personal experiences with having seizures when I was younger, I now concentrate on addressing the emotions and hopes and dreams of people who are dealing with the multiple, and often times consuming, issues of having a seizure disorder as well as any combination of realities and histories that equal the seizure experience. Please let me know if I can bring a more balanced picture to your life and those who you value and love in your life as well.
In our first session together, here's what you can expect
In the first session we will define your needs and desires around why you came to therapy. If you have a history of seizures or something equally as impactful to your life, we will start and create a beginning strategy for future sessions which you think over in the weeks to come and modify when necessary.
The biggest strengths that I bring into our sessions
Having seizures when I was a child and having to address the cognitive and ongoing impact of the "seizure mind" thinking for over 70 years has given me a clear picture of how the seizure mind experience has impacted everything in my life, and often times, the client's life as well. I use a combination of CBT and Motivational Therapy to both challenge the client to clearly understand their desires and current issues and hopes for their future as well.
The clients I'm best positioned to serve
I enjoy, and find a deep meaning in, helping and addressing, the issues of people who have seizures in their lives or need counseling addressing the often confusing experience of having someone who they love who has seizures. Addditionally, I enjoy the majority of clients who have past conficts in their lives which now interfere with their current desire to either change or start again with all the dreams and hopes they have had all their lives.
Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)
My use of CBT is very conversational and is intertwined with a motivational interviewing style. The overall feeling the client receives is an "over the fence" interaction with someone who also guides them on how to observe their seizure mind thinking patterns and how they are defining and impacting their relationships to the people and the world around them.
Motivational Interviewing
I work closely with the client to engage their current thinking and emotional issues around their seizure mind world. The experience is very collaborative and the focus is on both their thinking processes and their goals and needs for the future as well as their present emotional seizure mind life.
