Hi. I’m a licensed Psychologist (LP) who is based in Minnesota. I received my master’s degree from the University of Minnesota Duluth (UMD) and have been working in the mental health field for over 30 years. I work with adult clients who want to change to create their best life. I help clients shape their thinking and behavior through development and use of practical skills.
In our first session we will start with learning a little about each other and then look at the current challenges you are facing. We will work together to create specific goals that we will work on in therapy together.
Through the years, I have seen two key components in therapy: 1. Connecting with clients where they are at and 2. Identifying practical ways to address what is happening. Through motivational interviewing, education of concepts and skills, and practicing new skills we can achieve client’s goals together.
I have been helping clients change their thinking process and change their lives since the beginning of my career. I find that identifying what clients want to change in life is best approached by challenging thoughts, feelings, and behaviors through work in the session and homework between sessions. Actively engaging in therapy allows clients to address their anxiety and depression with effective coping strategies.
I have been working with clients throughout my career looking at what isn’t working and helping clients create alternatives. Our past has already happened and the only place we can make changes are the present and the future. Ultimately, we have control over our choices and behaviors. Reality therapy helps clients create objective goals, make healthy choices that align with their values, take control of their life, and move in a positive direction.
I have a strong base in faith. I use psychological principles integrated with Christian teachings and values to help clients work through life’s challenges. I believe a wholistic approach combining spirituality and psychological components provide a platform for change. Scripture, prayer, and Christian concepts are used to move the client to achieving their goals and deepen their spiritual connection.
