New to Grow
I am a licensed independent clinical social worker and have been practicing therapy for the last two and a half years. Over those years I have worked with clients at the residential eating disorder level of care and at the outpatient substance use level of care. Both settings have provided me with insight into how folks navigate change and how they may manage their distress. They have both also expanded my methods and tools to begin assisting clients in finding stability and facilitating growth.
My first session with anyone includes getting to know you and beginning to build the therapeutic bond. If you have attended therapy before I encourage clients to provide direction as far as what approaches have worked for them and which approaches have been less successful. If you have not attended therapy before, I work with you to provide context and understanding on what you may or may not expect. The first session after the intake will include a treatment planning session to get a sense of what goals you are wanting to achieve in therapy and are updated as needed over the course of meeting with me.
I love engaging with my clients in building rapport, getting to know them, and then diving into what brings them into therapy. I have a warmth that all of my clients will feel while maintaining strong boundaries so as to encourage growth and facilitate independent and lasting change. Mindfulness is a basis of much of my practice and while everyone can benefit from this practice I can adapt to my clients needs and explore all avenues with them to gain more insight.
My ideal client includes anyone navigating difficult life transitions and struggling with navigating change in their life. This may include someone experiencing gender or sexuality fluidity, career change, family conflict, and/or relationship struggles. I also enjoy working with people who are open and willing to find alternatives to their current maladaptive coping mechanisms and this includes addiction, eating disorders, and/or distraction through other avenues.
Acceptance and commitment (ACT)
My background stems from working with individuals completing primarily eating disorder and some substance use treatment. I utilize acceptance and commitment therapy to assist with navigating people through periods change and finding stability with different coping mechanisms.
Humanistic
This is a foundational approach I use to help build rapport and remain engaged in session with clients. It allows room and space for validation as well as keeps adequate boundaries to provide encouragement for growth.
Dialectical Behavior (DBT)
My background stems from working with individuals completing primarily eating disorder and some substance use treatment. I use dialectical behavior therapeutic techniques to encourage mindfulness practices and build up from there to better support emotional regulation, interpersonal effectiveness, and distress tolerance.
Strength-Based
I utilize this approach to encourage and facilitate clients in identifying and utilizing their strengths to gain insight into their self and grow their confidence.
Mind-body approach
The mind-body approach incorporates and facilitates emotional understanding and connection to the body. I encourage clients to practice tuning into what their body tells them and incorporate this into their day-to-day.
