"There can be no transforming of darkness into light ... without emotion." -Jung Emotional Intelligence (EI) is the core of my training. It embraces the belief systems of the past that affect your present. It's a state-of-mind that defines thinking that affects emotional awareness. To become aware is not to change, but to understand and accept. Carrying guilt or shame of the past, triggers the conflict of now. I don't offer advice - I offer choices - a chance to choose your own method of healing that fits you - not something others feel 'should' be. Come. Sit. Talk. Let's wander your path together. Licensed in Ohio, South Carolina, Washington DC, Arizona, Virginia, and Florida
Working together, we will begin to identify the irrational beliefs that have harbored the negative emotions of your past to begin to change the 'habits' that your brain has formed over the years in dealing with your environment - determining where your source of 'power' is to change - learning techniques and skills to better cope with the changes in life and processing difficult conflicts of past and present. NOTE: please be sure to fill out the intake paperwork prior to the first meeting as this is required per my policy.
I have been practicing about 24 years in my own private practice. My doctorate is in Clinical Psychology with a focus on trauma and neuropsych. I use a theory called Rational Emotive Behavioral Therapy (REBT) which focuses on changing your 'stinking thinking' – you see, I believe that if I can change the way you think, ultimately, I will change the way you behave / feel.
My focus is on trauma and neuropsych - working with adults ages 17 & up - anxiety; depression; relationship difficulties; occupational struggles; and histories of trauma
I use an integrated approach depending on the type of patient I work with - not every theory fits everyone perfectly; so the ability to shift to different perspectives allow a holistic approach to healing.

Alicia is warm, authentic, funny, and has challenged me to grow and change my way of thinking in a short period of time. Her approach is direct and you know exactly what to expect out of your sessions with her. You can tell right off the bat that she cares about her patients deeply and is incredibly supportive. She frames things in a way that really gets you thinking and challenging your unhelpful, irrational beliefs and gives you the tools to reprogram your thinking to be healthier.

I’ve had a hard time finding a counselor that could really challenge my thinking & how I process the world & Dr. Moran has been a gem of a find. I’m grateful for her insights, guidance, humor & overall deep understanding of the layered human experience. 5 stars! ✨

Dr. Moran was warm and friendly and is clearly experienced. Most importantly, she immediately presented a plan of action (after explaining her approach to therapy). I felt like she understands where I am in my therapy journey and was very honest about what she expects from me. I appreciated her direct approach and honesty.
