Josh Ulrich
Hello, I am a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) who resides in Arizona. I have an LPC in both the state of Arizona and Colorado. For more than 9 years I have worked with both young adults and adults suffering from mood disorders, chemical addictions, behavioral addictions, and grief/loss.
A reduction in depression or cravings may be enough for some clients, coming to acceptance over the death of a loved one may be the end goal of another.
I have specific training in grief therapy, sexual addiction, autism spectrum disorder, as well as trauma informed care.
First session
In the first session we will introduce ourselves and discuss what brings you into therapy. I will answer all your questions and make sure that you are at ease and feel comfortable. Therapy cannot happen without safety and the ability to trust each other. After we get to know each other, we will discuss both your short term and long term goals for therapy. We will then take it from there.
Strengths
I am open and wiling to listen. I will support you in your search for answers and be there for you when you need to be heard. I will not judge you, only listen and be there. Pain is universal, but we do not have to suffer alone. If you are scared, sad, or full of shame, I can help. We will work together to help you reach your goals and reclaim your joy
Ideal clients
I love working with young adults and adults struggling with mood disorders, chemical addictions, behavioral addictions, and grief/loss. I am a licensed Sex Addition therapist (CSAT), so those suffering from behavioral addictions, such as sex, and video games will find a therapist who is open and willing to listen to your struggles and shame. As a certified Autism Spectrum Disorder Clinical Specialist (ASDCS) I provide mental health therapy to those with ASD and family members caring for those on the spectrum. If you are in pain and need a therapist to listen and not judge you or make you feel shame, then I can be that therapist. My goal is for the client to leave therapy with the tools and understanding to create a sober and more stable life, with a better understanding of their issues.
Treatment methods
Sex Therapy
I am a Certified Sex Addict Therapist, CSAT. I work with those suffering from love and sex addiction. I primarily use the Patrick Carnes 30 Task Method. I have been working in this field for over 5 years and have treated individuals suffering from both behavioral and chemical addiction.
Grief Therapy
I received my internship with Hospice of Arizona. I have worked with those that are dying and family members of those that have died. I focus on the "normalization" of the grief/loss that one feels and the steps needed to make to move from grief to healing
Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)
I use CBT as a primary form of therapy with my clients. I help patients look at their thinking and behaviors and how changing one can change another. This is done via talk therapy and individualized assignments to be done outside of the session.
