Hi ! I am an LCSW based in Virginia. I attended Syracuse University where I received my Masters in Social Work. I have been practicing for 33 years. I have worked with individuals and couples addressing concerns from depression, anxiety, life transitions, communication and coping. I have experiences working in a mental health clinic, higher education counseling centers, and in private practice. I have spent many years working with people and trauma .

What can clients expect to take away from sessions with you?

When I meet with a new client, they can expect a conversation about them. Any question that I ask, they will know the answer. This is not a test but a way for us to build trust and rapport in a safe and confidential space.

Explain to clients what areas you feel are your biggest strengths.

I am open to all kinds of conversations and offer support, safety and no judgment. I accept people where they are at and expect people to just be human. My training allows me to craft a line of treatment services unique to each client and my sessions are always led by client needs.

Describe the client(s) you are best positioned to serve.

I enjoy working with adults and couples. My professional training and experiences allow me to offer a wide variety of interventions. My clients are at a point in their life where they are prepared to take the next step in doing something different, for the better. They are open to talking about everything that scares them as well as everything that inspires them.

My treatment methods

Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)

I have found that working with clients in a psychoeducational modality paired with talk therapy allows for the client to apply CBT strategies in a practical way. Once clients understand their perceptions and inner dialogue and how this impacts feelings and behavior ,they are able to create new narratives and find relief from the worry and fear. They don't have to believe everything they think.

Couples Counseling

I have had the pleasure of working with couples at various developmental stages in the relationship. Helping to facilitate an honest and respectful dialogue can assist couples in communicating and having a voice to get needs met. I teach couples to not just hear, but listen. We also work on how to talk to your partner, especially when the topic is challenging. We also discuss sociological factors that impact relationships and how to wisely navigate current day issues.

Motivational Interviewing

Using Miller and Rollnick model of Motivational interviewing can be applied just about any addiction which I consider a very Humanistic approach when working with clients who struggle to change. The model works as it does not condemn nor shame but sets a person up for success. The approach allows for some very deep and compelling conversations about change and how it can be an access able concept.

Psychoeducation

There are many opportunities in therapy for clients to learn. Breaking concepts down provides for great learning and new mindsets. Mindsets that bring relief and reframing of life events that have interfered with resolution and growth.

Solution Focused Brief Treatment

Solution Focused Treatment addresses the challenge at hand and strategies to resolve. It does not include diving deep into developmental or family history, but brings relief sooner than later to clients .
