Hello! I am Ismel Fernandez-Calienes, your PMHNP-BC currently located in the Miami area. I am a big fan of good music, good movies, fishing, and reading. My office is based in Miami, FL, but I have patients in all of Florida whom I assess via Telemedicine for their convenience and their best time management. I help patients with different mental health disorders including ADHD, Depression, Anxiety, Bipolar Disorders, PTSD, sleeping issues, LGTB+ issues, and many more. My goal is to achieve good trust between my patients and myself and create an environment in which they feel safe and welcome so they can open up for me to be able to help them perform at their best capacity.
We will talk a lot about you! You should expect to answer lots of questions in a bilateral conversation in which we both will learn from each other. We will discuss why are you looking for help at this moment and will find ways to help ease your mind and find peace within yourself.
Having worked for many years with different populations in different work settings has helped me to increase my cultural competence, respect for others, and have an unprejudiced open mind. Only we know what we have been through, but that doesn't mean that we have to fight our demons alone, my willingness, knowledge, and disposition are my best tools to help you.
I love working with a diverse population. As I have a background in Nursing studies I love helping nurses overcome the negative effects caused by burnout, micromanagement, compassion fatigue, and other issues we face as healthcare professionals. I have been there! if you need help, I am here for you! I'm passionate about helping kids and young adults in becoming successful and being a good person. Family is the cell of society, in my opinion, we will never be able to create a good society with difunctional, and disorganized families.
Cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) is a form of psychological treatment that has been effective for various problems including depression, anxiety disorders, alcohol and drug use problems, marital problems, eating disorders, and severe mental illness. I have been included in my practice for more than a year with good results from my patients.
Motivational interviewing (MI) is an effective counseling method used in my practice to enhance motivation through the resolution of ambivalence. It has been successfully used in the field of addiction medicine, which drew on the phrase ready, willing, and able to outline three critical components of motivation. These were: the importance of change for the patient (willingness) the confidence to change (ability) whether change is an immediate priority (readiness). Using MI techniques in my practice tailor motivational strategies to the individual's stage of change.
