In our first session together, here's what you can expect
The first session with be the "getting to know you" session. The first session is in-depth, and may be longer than subsequent regular sessions. Yes we may go over some policy and procedure stuff, and Yes, There will be a lot of questions asked so I can understand your background/where you are coming from. You can also ask me questions as part of this process so we both can create a positive therapeutic relationship. I do my best to create a safe space, with unconditional positive regard for my clients so they can feel comfortable opening up. Transparency is key to your successful therapy process.
The biggest strengths that I bring into our sessions
I have more of an eclectic approach to therapy. Drawing from many modalities, to include: CBT, DBT, psychodynamic, person-centered, strengths-based, solution-focused, emotive-relation, somatic, and other approaches, with a purpose of tailoring the therapeutic experience to your needs rather than a cookie-cutter therapy style. Not every treatment method works for every client. I believe it's important to meet you wherever you are at and work together to create positive treatment goals.
The clients I'm best positioned to serve
I am best positioned to serve those that are ready for therapy and change. People who have already decided that therapy is the best place for them to deal with whatever they are going through and are willing/able to do the work to help themselves grow and change for their own betterment. Successful therapy requires an open mind, a willingness to change, attending appointments, and doing the work. I believe in ensuring my clients understand as much as possible in sessions. I will do my best to explain and clarify what we are doing in therapy and the purpose of it to the best of my ability.

This is the first time I’ve used growtherapy, and I am very happy with my first session. Melissa was very inviting, and solution-oriented in her responses, as am I. I very much appreciated the holistic methods and tools she provided as ‘homework’ to level-out my emotions.

I love the connection and dynamic between us. I felt completely free of judgment, which makes it easier to talk to.
