I am a Licensed Professional Counselor in the State of Texas with 33 years of experience. I have completed a Master of Science in Psychology and Neurobehavioral Science at the University of Texas at Tyler. I have helped children, adolescents, and adults struggling with behavioral and emotional issues to improve their daily functioning and put them on the path to a successful life.
The first appointment is to introduce myself and build rapport while taking a history of my client's counseling concerns and issues, as well as social and medical history to aid in developing an initial plan of therapy.
I view my strengths in therapy in my ability to be empathic, observant, and in listening to the needs and anxieties of my clients.
I enjoy working with adults of all ages who are struggling with stage of life issues as well as emotional issues. My goal to give them coping skills, give them awareness of their inherit strengths, and move beyond fear and anxiety into a higher-level adaptive functioning and attainment of their goals
I have success in using the Alerian approach to therapy with adolescents and adult. I work the client in a collaborative approach to promote insight, self-awareness, and encouragement to develop and full treatment plan.
Through a conversational approach I help my clients establish self-defeating beliefs about themselves and their environment and examine behaviors that have developed out of these faulty beliefs and work on change to assist my client in achieving their therapeutic goals.
Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) is a highly effective and well researched treatment for trauma of all types, unresolved grief, and may be used effectively with many other conditions.
To be an effective therapist one has to be aware of cultures and the inherit differences between the client's cultural experiences and my own in order to providing therapy in a safe environment with awareness of the individual needs of each client.
