About me

https://www.adaptlabtherapy.com/ Hi, I’m Abel. I know firsthand how ADHD can shape your life — not just in focus and productivity, but in emotions, confidence, and relationships. I was diagnosed in my 30s, and it helped me make sense of years of struggles with organization, responsibilities, and executive functioning. But what surprised me most was how profoundly ADHD impacts relationships, especially marriage. That’s why I believe therapy for ADHD has to go beyond productivity — it has to address how ADHD affects the people you love most. As a husband of 13 years, a father, and a family man, I understand the quiet pressures many men carry. I also know how relationships require vulnerability, balance, and teamwork. My wife and I work hard at our own marriage, especially in navigating ADHD together. That lived experience shapes the way I support couples and men in therapy: with honesty, compassion, and strategies that work in the real world. I’ve also wrestled with body image and self-worth challenges after years of being overweight. Through hard work, I reached a healthy weight and learned firsthand how self-care directly strengthens self-worth. This experience fuels my commitment to helping clients build healthier, more grounded relationships with themselves.

In our first session together, here's what you can expect

Clients often tell me I bring the right mix of compassion, practicality, and no-nonsense honesty. I don’t sit back and nod — I challenge you, laugh with you, and walk alongside you. My style is direct but deeply relational, because I know the therapeutic relationship is the foundation for real change. I use a blend of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and a humanistic approach, always tailored to your needs. Whether it’s ADHD, men’s issues, or couples therapy, my focus is steady: helping you build tools, insight, and connection that last.

The biggest strengths that I bring into our sessions

Therapy with me isn’t condescending or clinical for the sake of it. It’s real conversations, practical tools, and steady guidance. My goal is for you to feel both understood and equipped — relieved that someone finally gets it, and confident that you now have a way forward.

The clients I'm best positioned to serve

ADHD Therapy for Adults ADHD isn’t just about trouble focusing. It shows up in missed deadlines, forgotten details, and the constant grind of trying to “just push harder.” Productivity suffers—and so does confidence. It also affects emotions and relationships. Quick reactions, shame spirals, and feeling like you’re letting yourself or others down can strain connection at home and at work. You’re capable and motivated, but the systems you’ve tried haven’t stuck. If you’ve been white-knuckling it, bouncing between hacks, or talking in circles without real change, you’re not alone. You need a plan that fits your brain—and support that respects your reality. Therapy for Men From the beginning, men are expected to hold their ground—to be competent, steady, and reliable. Yet when the weight grows too heavy, most men are told to keep going, to push through in silence. But avoidance doesn’t eliminate the burden—it compounds it. Stress becomes anger, anger becomes disconnection, and disconnection becomes despair. Left unspoken, these patterns can erode your confidence, your relationships, and your sense of who you are. Acknowledging the weight doesn’t make you weak. It’s the first act of strength—naming the chaos honestly so you can begin to bring it into order. ADHD & Couples *Please Note: Couples sessions are $200 per hour and are available as cash pay only (not billed through insurance). When ADHD shows up in a relationship, the patterns can be exhausting. One partner feels overwhelmed and unseen, while the other feels nagged, unappreciated, or like they can never get it right. This cycle can lead to resentment, loneliness, and fights that repeat without resolution. It’s not because either partner doesn’t care—it’s because ADHD impacts communication, follow-through, and emotional regulation in ways that affect the whole relationship. Without help, couples get stuck in blame. With the right support, you can change the cycle.

My treatment methods

Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)

I utilize an integrative approach that combines elements of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and Humanistic Therapy techniques. CBT is based on the idea that our thoughts, feelings, and behaviors are interconnected. Changing those maladaptive thoughts and behaviors can lead to changes in emotions and overall mental health. Humanistic therapy techniques are client-centered and focus on the whole person, including their thoughts, emotions, and behaviors. It aims to create a supportive and non-judgmental environment where clients can explore their feelings and achieve personal growth.

Couples Counseling

I don’t take sides—I take the side of your relationship. My job isn’t to referee arguments but to help you both see the destructive cycle you’re stuck in and teach you how to step out of it. We’ll name the moves you fall into, get honest about what’s really driving them, and practice new ways of relating that shift the whole dynamic. I bring structure and practical tools to ADHD-related struggles, while also addressing the deeper emotional wounds that keep getting triggered. This is tough work, but it’s the work of building a stronger, more loving partnership.

Humanistic

This method emphasizes self-awareness, personal growth, and authenticity. I help clients explore their experiences, values, and emotions with compassion, empowering them to connect more deeply with themselves and others. Humanistic therapy is especially useful for clients working through identity concerns, self-worth, and relational challenges.

Mindfulness-Based Therapy

I incorporate mindfulness-based therapy to help clients build awareness of their thoughts, emotions, and physical sensations in the present moment. This approach supports clients in developing healthier coping strategies, reducing anxiety, and managing stress more effectively. I guide clients in practices such as grounding, breathwork, and nonjudgmental self-reflection to increase emotional regulation and resilience.

Motivational Interviewing

I use motivational interviewing to help clients explore their ambivalence, clarify personal values, and strengthen motivation for change. This approach is collaborative and client-centered, empowering individuals to set meaningful goals and take steps toward them at their own pace. I often use motivational interviewing to support clients working through behavior change, managing ADHD, navigating trauma recovery, or addressing patterns that feel stuck.
