Everyone has their own unique story and I will work to understand yours. I work with a variety of people including individuals, couples and families from a wide variety of professions, family situations, race, age and religious affiliations. Some of the issues I have experience and success working with are sexual dysfunction, infidelity, communication issues, trauma, and mental disorders. My approach looks at the entire person and the “system” in and surrounding them. I examine elements of people’s lives like their physical well-being, emotional coping and conflict resolution skills. We will work together in developing helpful behaviors and collaborate to create a safe place to develop emotional and physical wellness.
On our first session, I will be gathering information about what you would like to explore. If you have already been to therapy I will work to encorporate previous work you have done without requiring you to go into depth unless you want to do that. I will be working to earn your trust and show you the safe place I have created just for you!
I have experience working with the GLBTQIA community. We've all experienced what it's like to be the odd one out in a crowd. GLBTQI individuals encounter these feelings in many areas of their lives, even within their own community. Things that I have helped these clients address are religious abuse and healing, "one in one out", health status, and family. I am qualified to provide recommedations for gender-affirming procedures and treatment.
I used couple's counseling methods when working with those in relationships. I encourage all relationships to be as healthy as they can be and I love helping my clients have the relationships they have always wanted. I use an eclectic approach, using tools from Gottman, Emotionally Focused, Person Centered and Trauma treatment in relationships.
I like to be as culturally sensitive as I can, so I will want to get to know your culture and the role it plays in your life. I know that our lives are not one dimensional; they are filled with and affected by all the things around you. Let's explore what culture means to you and how you incorporate it into your life.
I have become certified (CCTP) to work with those who have experienced trauma and are perhaps struggling to live without thoughts of the event or circumstances. I understand the ways trauma can influence our choices. Let's see if we can have that influence directed in a way that helps you cope with life.
