COVID created treacherous hurdles that high school and college students had to navigate including lack of socializing with peers and not having adequate support from teachers and inadequate learning opportunities for them to develop into confident students. Competition is now relentless due to 24 hour access to social media and kids just don't have enough down time to unplug. Are you a veteran of any of the conflicts in Afghanistan or Iraq? Are you having trouble integrating into civilian life or are traumatic memories of combat preventing you from having healthy relationships? I get it. I specialize in supporting clients during times of transition to help them cope with the anxiety, depression, and grief that often accompanies these changes. Together, we will create a safe space where you can focus on yourself. You will feel empowered through the transformative therapy process, allowing you to adjust to whatever life transitions you are dealing with. In this space, you will grow with a practitioner who prides herself on being fully present, compassionate, and empathetic. We will work together to build upon your strengths and resilience to overcome past wounds and challenges and help you love and fully accept yourself. As a Licensed Independent Clinical Social Worker, I practice in Connecticut and Massachusetts. I have worked with adults of all ages. My clients are often struggling with family conflicts, anxiety, depression, being a college student, loss of independence, significant health changes, cancer diagnosis, adjustment issues, caregiver stress/burnout, life transitions, grief/loss, women’s issues, communication, setting healthy boundaries and relationships. As a mother of two young children, I understand how challenging it can be to juggle it all as a caregiver. As a cancer survivor, I know how heavy and lonely unexpected life changes can feel. These experiences have only strengthened my therapeutic practice to better serve and connect with future clients like you.

As a licensed Psychologist, I first prioritize learning not only why a person is contacting me, but also to be able to relate to that person based on their individual needs and what are their expectations of therapy. I believe that we all need to have a sense of purpose or meaningfulness in our lives, something that our thoughts, emotions and life experiences contribute to the "heart" of our personalities. The process of healing from the challenges of life begins with a search for truth about our beliefs, habits and relationships. Physical health is affected by our mental health through the complex interactions between the brain and bodily functions. Interventions I use in my sessions include Cognitive Therapy, CBT, DBT and ACT. As a Psychologist, I have worked in private practice, long term care, and forensic and psychiatric hospitals. Even though these patient populations are diverse, the common denominator is the human "heart". My sessions work to connect a person's sense of meaning in life to help them overcome anxiety, depression and a loss of personal identity in this complex world.

About You Are you in a situation where friends and family are not enough help right now? There are times when almost everyone needs to talk to an objective person. If this is your first time in counseling finding out a little about about your counselor is just one of the steps you have to take. Another is understanding what counseling/therapy is. It's a confidential meeting with an objective professional trained to sort things out and identify if you are at risk of harming yourself because life is too painful to bear. If you are dealing with an unbearable situation like having fallen into addiction, being threatened of losing a job, a death in the family, a serious illness of your own, ongoing disability, a relationship going sour or breakup, loss of any kind, early recovery depression or anger, I can help you get back on track. Originally I was a New Yorker. I settled down in Massachusetts after an adventurous life and had a family later than most. Although I did work in human services with my bachelor's degree, I did not have the means to get an M.S. in Mental Health Counseling until I was an adult. When I did finally get my Master's degree, I was grateful to finally be helpful to my clients. I managed a short-term day program for people in early recovery and an inpatient program to detox long-term alcoholics. I worked at an outpatient community mental clinic, I realized I wanted to work with many different kinds of people. In my private practice, I created a warm and flexible environment where I could steer my course. I have now worked with people with substance abuse, anger issues, divorces, grief, work-related issues, family problems, early recovery, disability, chronic pain, and others. At this point, I am working just with this telehealth practice. I use client-centered therapy, solution-oriented therapy, cognitive behavioral therapy, and positive psychology. I can explain what these mean. Client-centered therapy means I focus with you on how you see your present situation. With this information, I help you find answers to the obstacles you face. Solution-oriented therapy focuses on building solutions to the present problems. We don’t talk as much about the problem as the answers and hopes, Cognitive Behavioral therapy teaches you how to recognize your unhelpful thought patterns and create healthy new ones.

My name is Dr. Olushola Bakare, and I’m a board-certified Psychotherapist. I attended St Joseph College. I’m happy to help you today with any of your concerns. I enjoy empowering people and digging out their strengths. I don't ask fish to fly, neither do I ask birds to swim. I respect everyone's strengths and help my client recognize them. I love to highlight my client's strengths. I offer a safe, warm, therapeutic, judgment-free space for Adults (18+) and Older Adults (65+). I am sorry, but I do not accept clients who pay in cash. Also, every late cancellation or no-show accrues a late charge fee. It is my ethical duty to officially terminate our therapeutic relationship when it is reasonably clear that the client is no longer beneficent, services are no longer required, counseling no longer serves the client's needs and/or interests or Dr. Olushola Bakare, LMFT limits do not allow the provision of further counseling services. It is the policy of Dr. Olushola Bakare, LMFT, that our professional relationship will be terminated after a one-month consistent lapse of meeting with a client. Dr. Olushola Bakare, LMFT, will attempt to notify you of this change in status as soon as possible after one month. My ethical duty is to identify, be available, and care for current clients. It could feel awkward for our relationship to end, yet it is not meant to be discourteous in any way.
