I am a dedicated and passionate social worker who has committed my career to helping others. I have experience with adolescents, adults, and elder adults and truly enjoy working with the life span. I believe my strongest asset is my ability to connect with others, as a therapist my goal is for us to build a connection together that allows trust, honesty, and communication to meet whatever your goals may be. I feel that therapy does not have to be the intense, Freudian, dissection of each thought that can be depicted in movies. Rather, that the best therapeutic experiences often involve a mixture of supported listening, active coping skill implementation and personal reflection. I utilize strengths-based approaches including ACT, CBT, DBT skills, and more, to create plans for growth that fit your unique needs and give you solutions and skills for everyday life.

I’m excited to get to know you better! In the meantime, here’s a little about me, and my professional experience and training. I think one of the biggest challenges, after taking that first brave step of reaching out, is to find a good therapist that you connect with. In my twenty-plus years of experience, the therapeutic relationship is the principal reason that therapy “works” or “doesn’t work.” My therapeutic style focuses on first developing a strong therapeutic alliance in which you feel emotionally safe and heard without judgment. You’ve already come to the conclusion that something in your life is not working, and my task is to help you to identify the ways in which you’d like things to be different. From there, together we can create realistic, achievable goals that support those changes and move you toward the life that you deserve. I have a large repertoire of strategies and interventions, which include cognitive behavioral therapy, mindfulness practices, and motivational interviewing. Producing insights, strategies, and tools that you can use immediately is the goal of every interaction I have with you. I have extensive experience in trauma, anxiety, relationship issues (adult as well as parent-child), substance abuse, and co-occurring disorders. I have found that many people experiencing trauma or anxiety are helped by a combination of mindfulness and cognitive behavioral therapy. This teaches them how to tolerate their intense feelings and how to reframe unhelpful thought patterns that keep them stuck. On a personal note, I have been a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist since 1997 and have worked with a variety of clients in many different settings. When I’m not helping people, I can usually be found on the golf course or outdoors. I look forward to helping you to make the changes you desire.

Also, every late cancellation or no-show accrues a late charge fee. It is my ethical duty to officially terminate our therapeutic relationship when it is reasonably clear that the client is no longer beneficent, services are no longer required, counseling no longer serves the client's needs and interests, or Dr. Olushola Bakare, LMFT limits do not allow the provision of further counseling services. It is the policy of Dr. Olushola Bakare, LMFT, that our professional relationship will be terminated after a one-month consistent lapse of meeting with a client. Dr. Olushola Bakare, LMFT, will attempt to notify you of this change in status as soon as possible after one month. My ethical duty is identifying, being available, and caring for current clients. I strongly believe that between the developmental ages of 1 through 18 can and does affect who you are today and what ever happened to you between that time still has a hold on you today at the ages of 20, 30 50, etc. Getting rid of all that hurt, anger, trauma, etc. so that you can address it, work through it, come to terms with it and ultimately leave it all behind, and unload it.

I believe in engaging people in a non-judgmental, empowering, and respectful manner that is dynamic and unique to best fit your lifestyle. I strive to help clients feel valued, gain positive results, and achieve goals using tailored interventions to your needs. My approach I believe that regardless of what brings you to therapy most people are struggling with making peace with their humanness. Based on this principle I take a Humanistic approach to supporting Clients focusing on their existing strengths, challenging limiting self-narratives, and building healthy patterns of behavior. My focus I typically think of my clients as a "person in the environment approach" thinking about their interactions and relationships within the micro-to-macro systems that surround them. I work with adults who are feeling overwhelmed and managing symptoms of depression, anxiety, grief, and childhood trauma. Much of the deeper work done by my clients surrounds themes of perfectionism, childhood attachment wounds, and healing from relational trauma. My communication style I take a conversational tone in therapy trying to ensure I discuss clinical topics in a way that is meaningful, and easily applied to your daily life. My goals for you My approach to goal setting with clients is all about collaborating to identify your focus and needs. You are the expert in you so developing trust is always the first step to achieving any goals you may bring to therapy.

25 years as a clinical social worker has taught me that finding the right therapist is like trying on a pair of shoes. It has to be the right fit for you to start the journey of self-exploration. I believe in a strength based approach, where we not only explore the issues that brought you to therapy, but we explore how to expand the things that bring you joy and happiness. As Dr. Seuss once said, “life is a great balancing act” and he could not have been more right. My practice focuses on individual therapy for adolescents, and adults. My areas of expertise include depression, mood disorders, Oppositional Defiant Disorder, ADHD, Trauma, and transitional issues of work, relationships, etc. Client’s describe me as genuine and authentic, supportive, strength based, straight forward, and always keeping hope alive.

You are here hoping to find that therapist who stands out to you because you want to find someone who can help you. The search can be overwhelming for some. Most of the profiles of therapists are going to say similar things. Most of which should be standard like brakes on a car. I cannot promise I'm the right one for you. Here is what I can tell you about my approach. I believe in being practical which means I will not use a lot of psycho-babble or fancy strategies. I have a tendency to be blunt. My wife says I'm the "bluntest politest man" she has ever met. I'm going to be real with you. I love couples/marriage counseling, and that is my main focus. However, about half of my clients have always been individuals. Some people just need a place to vent. Others need help solving a problem, and most people need a little of both. I know therapy might be a little intimidating or even scary to some. Try to think of it as a massage for your brain. It's a place where you can say whatever you want guilt-free.

Hello there! I'm Ryan. Have you been finding it more and more difficult to find motivation in once simple tasks? Do you struggle in finding happiness in things you used to enjoy? Has it been hard in being kind to yourself? I assist people in managing their anxiety and depression, and look to put the client first in making empowered decisions over their lives- from small to colossal and anywhere in between. Together, we can work together to identify things that aren't working and get you back to a place of balance and equilibrium. I love being able to develop rapport with clients to better understand their worldview and go from there. I find it of utmost importance to put what the desires and needs are of the client and having that be the backbone of our sessions together. Whether you are going through a crisis in life, or just want someone to talk to, I am here to help. Taking the first step in seeing a therapist can be daunting and intimidating, but it is what can be so helpful to feel more well rounded in life. Together, we can work together to go over your goals and aspirations. Let's connect!

Frequently asked questions

Why filter by Massachusetts rather than a city like Boston?

When looking for online therapy, you can see anyone that is credentialed in the state. We want you to find the best fit, therefore, Grow Therapy shows available therapists across Massachusetts from Springfield to Cape Cod! If you’d rather see someone in-person, you can change the filter from virtual and find a therapist near you in Massachusetts.

Will my therapist take insurance?

When booking you’ll be asked to verify with your Member ID. However, if you don’t have any of the insurances available you can select cash. Our therapists will have their cost of appointment on their profile. Individual session costs will vary.

How does the Specialty Filter work? Can I find a therapist that focuses on Anger Management?

The specialty filter is optional. You don’t need to check any boxes to see a provider. However, fit is very important when selecting an online therapist. If you have knowledge or experience to recognize what specialties you may need. For example, your selected specialty, Anger Management, is filtering therapists in Massachusetts that work with patients with similar concerns.

Why use Gender, Age, and Identities filters?

Finding a provider with a similar life experience can be beneficial because it can be easier to establish rapport and potentially be understood quicker and clearer.

What to expect during your first session?

Your first therapy session is for you and your therapist to meet each other and to ask any questions that you have about the counseling process. This is where you can expect your therapist to do the same as they will ask questions to gain insight into your specific situation. In this first session the therapist is doing their part to gather as much information so they can better assess if they are able to meet your therapeutic needs.

Depending upon your provider's specialty, you may also discuss the methods the therapist will use. For additional information on therapy methods, please visit the Grow Therapy Help Center. Some people feel nervous before their first appointment, and that is totally normal! Coming prepared with a list of questions for your therapist may help. Remember, you're taking a brave step by seeking therapy, and it is okay to be nervous as you try something new.
