LCSW, 6 years of experience
New to Grow
Hi, I’m Henry L. Smith Jr., LCSW, and I provide compassionate, trauma-informed therapy for children, adults, and families. I specialize in helping clients heal from trauma, manage anxiety and depression, and navigate life transitions with clarity and confidence. My goal is to create a safe, supportive space where you can grow, build resilience, and find lasting balance and peace you deserve.
In our first session, my focus is on getting to know you and understanding what brought you to therapy. You’ll have space to share your story and express what’s been most difficult for you, while I listen with care, curiosity, and compassion. We’ll discuss your goals and begin creating a plan that feels supportive and realistic. I’ll explain my trauma-informed, collaborative approach and share what therapy with me looks like. My goal is for you to leave that first session feeling heard, safe, and encouraged—like you’ve taken the first real step toward healing and growth. Therapy is a journey, and I’ll walk alongside you every step of the way.
My greatest strengths lie in my ability to connect deeply with clients and tailor therapy to their unique needs. I bring over six years of experience working in child welfare, crisis intervention, behavioral health, and family systems. This background allows me to understand complex emotional dynamics and provide practical, compassionate guidance. My greatest strengths lie in my ability to build genuine connections and create a space where clients feel safe, understood, and supported. I bring years of experience in trauma-informed care, child welfare, crisis intervention, and behavioral health, which allows me to meet clients with empathy and insight. I’m trained in Trust-Based Relational Intervention (TBRI), Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), and Solution-Focused Brief Therapy (SFBT), and I use these approaches to help clients find clarity, balance, and strength in their lives. Clients often describe me as calm, grounding, and encouraging. I blend compassion with practical tools that promote real, lasting change—helping people heal, grow, and move forward with confidence and resilience.
I work best with clients who are ready to explore, grow, and create lasting change. Many of my clients are navigating trauma, anxiety, depression, relationship challenges, or life transitions that have left them feeling stuck or disconnected. I also support couples working to rebuild trust and communication, and families facing adoption, parenting, or behavioral challenges. My ideal clients are open to self-reflection and motivated to take small, meaningful steps toward healing. Whether you’ve tried therapy before or this is your first time reaching out, I’ll meet you where you are. Together, we’ll uncover your strengths, build new coping skills, and help you find balance, hope, and emotional well-being.
I use Solution Focused Brief Therapy (SFBT) to help you move from feeling stuck to building real, lasting change. Together, we’ll focus on your strengths, what’s already working, and the small steps that can make a big difference. My goal is to help you recognize your own resilience, set meaningful goals, and create practical solutions that fit your life. SFBT empowers you to move forward with confidence and hope—because even small shifts can lead to powerful growth.
I use CBT to help clients understand the connection between their thoughts, emotions, and behaviors. Together, we identify unhelpful patterns and replace them with healthier, more empowering ways of thinking and coping. My approach is collaborative and practical—you’ll gain tools you can use every day to manage stress, reduce anxiety, and improve your overall well-being. CBT helps you take control of your story and create lasting, positive change.
In couples therapy, I help partners rebuild trust, strengthen communication, and reconnect emotionally. Whether you’re navigating conflict, stress, or disconnection, I create a safe, nonjudgmental space where both partners feel heard and understood. Together, we identify patterns that keep you stuck and develop practical tools to improve communication and deepen intimacy. My goal is to help you rediscover your connection and build a stronger, more fulfilling relationship.
My strength-based approach focuses on what’s right with you—not just what’s wrong. We’ll identify your inner strengths, values, and past successes to help you face challenges with confidence. I believe every person has the capacity for growth and resilience, even in difficult seasons. By focusing on your abilities and potential, we’ll work together to build hope, restore balance, and empower you to create lasting, positive change in your life.
My trauma-informed approach creates a safe, supportive space for healing at your own pace. I understand how past experiences can shape how you think, feel, and relate to others. Together, we focus on safety, trust, and empowerment while building resilience and self-compassion. My goal is to help you reconnect with your sense of strength and hope, transforming survival into growth and confidence.
