Whether through meditation, words, or movement, I am ready to help you move you through “this” into the next phase of your life. Most of my social work career was in the case management area, so problem-solving treatment, motivational interviewing, setting and knocking down goals is a favorite approach of mine. I’m also a certified, trained yoga and meditation instructor, and reiki master, so I also am able to incorporate eastern philosophy into our work together. Whatever the approach, we are in this together. “This” could be depression, anxiety, transitions, loss, life. Let me help guide you to find your strengths, embrace your innate resiliency, and reach your best you. With the combination of various healing processes, we will work together with respect and compassion to develop the tools to get you to where you want to be.

Throughout life, we all experience some form of trauma, and I was no exception. Adversity often felt like my middle name. One of the most impactful influences in my teenage years was my school counselor, who truly “understood the misunderstood” and with whom I still keep in touch more than 25 years later. My passion for psychology has stayed strong throughout my life—whether evidence-based or holistic, I’m eager to learn it, apply it, and share it with others. I believe my purpose is to support people through both my knowledge and my personal experiences. I am grateful for the trust parents place in me to support their children and teens who feel unheard or misunderstood, as well as adults who feel lost or broken on their journey. Life is not always an easy path—but you don’t have to walk it alone. Let’s take the journey together.

The most important part is that you’re open to exploring your thoughts and feelings in a safe, nonjudgmental space. I'm here to support you in whatever way is most helpful, whether that’s answering questions, helping you get started, or just listening. You don’t have to figure it all out at once—just taking this first step is already meaningful. If things feel too difficult to change and you need guidance, support, direction, and empathic listening you might be a great candidate for individual therapy from me. What separates me from other clinicians is my versatility. Throughout my career, I have worked at every level of care and every population. From individual therapy/group therapy to intensive outpatient, and partial hospitalization programs to being the clinical director at a locked psychiatric hospital, I have seen pretty much everything. My main objective in all cases is to try and build a trusting rapport/relationship in which no judgment is made and an atmosphere where one can feel safe talking about difficult issues, their current level or desire to change through motivational interviewing and CBT. Over the years I have come to develop areas of extreme expertise such as addiction (either oneself or a loved one), co-occurring disorders or dual diagnosis, dealing with any diagnosis from adjustment disorders to more complex or serious mental illness which includes major depression, anxiety, bipolar, schizophrenia, and the conditions that fall within these categories. In addition, I can offer case management services, assist with paperwork, or find the right treatment if need a higher level of care.

Are you struggling with depression and anxiety, navigating a difficult life transition or stressful situation, experiencing sadness and grief over a significant loss? Are you wanting to experience more joy and gain confidence in your ability to face the often-painful challenges that life as a human being can bring our way? Do you sometimes experience overwhelming thoughts and emotions that lead to negative behaviors and mood states and get in the way of living your best life? Would you like to find a sense of inner peace, balance, hope and meaning? I enjoy working with individuals and adults of all ages seeking to make changes and learn coping skills to manage painful and unwanted feelings and resolve problems that arise, as well as couples seeking to increase connection and improve communication and conflict resolution skills. My approach draws from clinical training and experience in psychodynamic, mindfulness and cognitive-behavioral treatment approaches including Acceptance and Commitment Therapy and Dialectical Behavior Therapy. I have 20 years of experience working with individuals of all ages and genders, families and couples struggling with a variety of mental health issues and life transitions, and continue to love my work. A little about me: I am a partner, mother, daughter, sister and friend. I am nurtured by being in nature, hiking with my dog, reading, cooking, gardening. I am enjoying exploring the Austin area since moving from Massachusetts in 2021.

Hello, my name is Bernard Scott, and I live in Boston Massachusetts. I attended Boston Public Schools, attended Boston University for my bachelor's degree, Simmons University for my master's degree, and Southern California School of Professional Studies where I received my Doctorate (PsyD) in Counseling Psychology. I became licensed in (psychiatric) Clinical Social Work and received my LICSW License in 1996. I have been in this field for over 35 years and worked in a number of clinics, hospitals in Boston and Brockton. I enjoy helping people find their inner strength and work through those subconscious unresolved issues from the past so that the individual can finally be free from childhood traumas, past relationship issues ect. I strongly believe that between the developmental ages of 1 through 18 can and does affect who you are today and what ever happened to you between that time still has a hold on you today at the ages of 20, 30 50, etc. Getting rid of all that hurt, anger, trauma, etc. so that you can address it, work through it, come to terms with it and ultimately leave it all behind, and unload it.

Hi! First, I want to acknowledge that looking for a therapist is a brave and important step towards your wellness, recovery and healing. So strong work for getting to this step! Therapy is a process, and it takes strength and vulnerability to get to where you want to be. I have spent ten years working as a licensed clinical social worker in the hospital setting where I have worked with immigrants, families, young adults, and older adults who come from multicultural backgrounds and LGBTQ+ identities with varying levels of mental health struggles, fears, and traumas. I have spent these years dedicating my time to supporting those dealing with chronic health issues, managing life after a cancer diagnosis, learning how to engage in life after trauma(s), coping with mental health challenges while balancing careers and relationships, and learning how to live with various forms of grief. My commitment is to create a safe and inclusive space for you to work through your challenges so that you can feel more confident and empowered to move forward.

My ideal clients are those who recognize that we all need help and understand that asking for support is a reflection, not of any weakness, but of their own self-regard and strength. I started off as a nurse and decided to return to school and get a masters in counseling psychology. I spent more than 25 years in addiction, including the years I spent as a nurse (11 years). I also have been a clinical supervisor and director of substance abuse programs, which made me realize I love working with clients individually and went into private practice. I have been in practice for 7 years, although I'm just returning to this level of care January 2023 I have worked all those years with clients suffering from trauma, anxiety and relationship issues.

Hi! I’m really glad you’re here. If you’re feeling anxious, low, or stuck in patterns that are hard to break, whether it's around your emotions, relationships, or day-to-day life, you’re not alone, and you don’t have to figure it all out by yourself. I’m currently accepting new clients, and I’d be honored to walk alongside you in this part of your journey. I work with people who are tired of just getting through the day and wondering if things will ever feel easier. If you’ve been feeling overwhelmed, disconnected, or like you’re carrying too much on your own, therapy can be a place to finally exhale. I offer a space where you can be real, slow down, and start sorting through what’s been weighing you down. My style is warm, honest, and supportive. I’ll meet you where you are, and together we’ll gently explore what’s behind the stress, heaviness, or patterns that keep showing up. Healing doesn’t happen overnight, but with the right support, meaningful change is possible. If any of this resonates with you, feel free to reach out. I’m happy to answer any questions and help you feel more at ease about starting therapy. I look forward to meeting with you and being part of your healing journey!

Frequently asked questions

Why filter by Massachusetts rather than a city like Boston?

When looking for online therapy, you can see anyone that is credentialed in the state. We want you to find the best fit, therefore, Grow Therapy shows available therapists across Massachusetts from Springfield to Cape Cod! If you’d rather see someone in-person, you can change the filter from virtual and find a therapist near you in Massachusetts.

Will my therapist take insurance?

When booking you’ll be asked to verify with your Member ID. However, if you don’t have any of the insurances available you can select cash. Our therapists will have their cost of appointment on their profile. Individual session costs will vary.

How does the Specialty Filter work? Can I find a therapist that focuses on Addiction?

The specialty filter is optional. You don’t need to check any boxes to see a provider. However, fit is very important when selecting an online therapist. If you have knowledge or experience to recognize what specialties you may need. For example, your selected specialty, Addiction, is filtering therapists in Massachusetts that work with patients with similar concerns.

Why use Gender, Age, and Identities filters?

Finding a provider with a similar life experience can be beneficial because it can be easier to establish rapport and potentially be understood quicker and clearer.

What to expect during your first session?

Your first therapy session is for you and your therapist to meet each other and to ask any questions that you have about the counseling process. This is where you can expect your therapist to do the same as they will ask questions to gain insight into your specific situation. In this first session the therapist is doing their part to gather as much information so they can better assess if they are able to meet your therapeutic needs.

Depending upon your provider's specialty, you may also discuss the methods the therapist will use. For additional information on therapy methods, please visit the Grow Therapy Help Center. Some people feel nervous before their first appointment, and that is totally normal! Coming prepared with a list of questions for your therapist may help. Remember, you're taking a brave step by seeking therapy, and it is okay to be nervous as you try something new.
