Hello! I am a Licensed Mental Health Counselor in the state of Massachusetts. I received my Master's Degree from Boston College and have been practicing for 6+ years. I have experience working in community mental health, outpatient, and inpatient psychiatric settings. As a therapist, I have worked with all ages, primarily adolescents and adults, and populations including those with chronic health issues, DV survivors, and those recently released from incarceration. I am also an LGBTQ+, non-monogamy, sex work, racial justice, and kink allied therapist and support harm reduction.
In the first session, we will give brief introductions and review expectations for therapy. We will then review what you would like to work on and go over different areas of your life to help me get a sense of who you are. Please share whatever you feel comfortable with as we will get to know each other over time. This all helps us develop a collaborative and tailored plan for us to work on moving forward.
My greatest strengths include establishing trust and feelings of authenticity within the therapeutic relationship, having humility in being able listen to and accept feedback, and fostering empowerment for you to feel capable of living your best life.
Trauma-informed care has guiding principles which include feelings safety, trustworthiness/transparency, peer support, collaboration/mutuality, empowered voice/choice, and consideration of culture/history/gender. I strive to use this in my practice with every person as each person is unique and has their own story. In using this modality, my goal is for you to feel a restored sense of safety, power, and self-worth.
I have experience working with people of many cultural backgrounds including Hispanic/Latinx, BIPOC, and LGBTQIA+. It is important to me as a therapist to consider your background/identity as well as my own as our culture/identity provides context for our behaviors and understanding of the world.
Goals in psychodynamic therapy include acknowledgment of emotions, identifying patterns, improving interpersonal relationships, and recognizing/addressing avoidance. My goal in using this modality is for people to be able to gain insight into their current daily lives through self-reflection of their past.
I utilize tools from DBT as needed or when clients are interested in them. The goals of DBT are to help you: understand and accept your difficult feelings, learn skills to manage these feelings, and be able to make positive changes in your life. These tools can be helpful when wanting to learn how to accept yourself and while also making changes simultaneously.
Mindfulness based practices strive to help bring awareness to the present moment and doing so without judgement. My goal in using this modality is to help people gain awareness of the interconnectedness of their thoughts, feelings, actions, and their bodies.
