I provide most therapy sessions through GROW’s secure Telehealth video platform for convenience and accessibility. For clients who prefer in-person care, I offer periodic sessions in the greater Sacramento area and South Lake Tahoe—especially for those interested in trauma-informed brainspotting or walk-and-talk therapy. I also offer evening appointment times (5:30pm-7:30pm), though these slots tend to fill quickly, and I have the most availability during the weekdays from 8:00am-5:00pm.

I believe I am very caring, compassionate, and empowering, while also believing in being honest and real with my clients.
I was born and raised in Minnesota, where I was practicing until very recently. I just moved to California. I have spent a couple of years living and practicing in Upstate New York. I have both my Bachelor's and Master's degrees in social work, with my Master's degree in Clinical Social Work. I have worked with a range of populations, individuals as young as 4 years old to 55 years old, individuals of several different cultures, the LGBTQ+ community, individuals with developmental disabilities, families, individuals, and couples.
My passion is working with children and adults who have experienced trauma. This being said, I have experience with a range of challenges from anger management, anxiety, depression, bipolar disorder, exploring healthy and unhealthy relationships, low self esteem and self confidence, parenting issues, LGBTQ+ issues, Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder, and blended families.

However, no matter your meaning, one thing is clear - existence can be very challenging for us. There are many ways to cope with the challenges of existing, resulting in different experiences. Therapy is just one way to manage the challenges.
Therapy
There are many ways to approach therapy. One way I like to approach it is to view an individual as a system. In therapy then, we check the system to see what’s working well, what’s neutral, and what’s not going well. In doing this, the goal is to get an individual to admit the reality of things, not what the individual wants or hopes but the present true reality.
It's important to identify and understand the reality of an individual because often there are significant fears and or unstable belief in the individual’s ability to manage challenges and get desired results.
Lack of control – one of the foundational fears for us is the lack of control we seem to have over ourselves and others. How does one cope with seemingly so little control - from how one comes into existence to how will my friend react if I said no.
Whether you’re a veteran in going to therapy or trying it for the first time, we will work as a team to see if we can get you to be how you want to be given the infinite things that are not in your control.
Hello, my name is Amber. I specialize in working with individual clients with the use of EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing). EMDR is a psychotherapy which focuses on healing the brain from past traumas and negative experiences. These past traumas can and do affect many aspects of our well-being, including the relationship with ourself and others. Many suffer with PTSD and other anxiety and depressive conditions which are impacted by past experiences.
