Hello! My name is Mica and I am a therapist specializing in body-based trauma healing. Trauma and grief will touch all of us at some point in our lives. However, each person is impacted in a different way. If you are finding it hard to cope with life’s overwhelming experiences, you are not alone and I can help in your journey toward healing.

In our first session together, here's what you can expect

My goal is that each client leaves the first session feeling more hopeful and empowered. I want my clients to show up however they need to and trust that I will meet them where they are and without judgement. In this safe and nurturing space, they will have greater access to their internal wisdom and together we will find solutions for their concerns.

The biggest strengths that I bring into our sessions

Compassion, curiosity, and theory are all equal partners in my therapeutic approach. This allows me to pivot as need be in the way I support folks to find what works for each individual client.

The clients I'm best positioned to serve

Have you gone through a challenging time and found yourself still returning to it in your mind, though the challenge has passed? Perhaps it is not your mind, but your body, that holds onto the stress. Body stress can show up as trouble sleeping, unexplained tension or strain, difficulty relaxing, difficulty mobilizing energy for things we need to do, or feeling the need to always be moving or working on something. Our bodies are amazingly creative in the ways they try to mitigate stress. Sometimes when that process is unconscious though, those stress relieving strategies can work against us. As a Somatic Experiencing Practitioner, I am trained to help you explore what your body and mind are holding onto and help you complete and release these experiences. It takes a lot of energy to hold onto stress. Though we may wish to release it, this can be tough to accomplish without the right support. However, once we make the space to listen to our unmet needs and allow past experiences to unfold, we can free up that energy for other purposes.

My treatment methods

Somatic

I am a Somatic Experiencing Practitioner and I have also trained in other somatic modalities with 8 years of total experience. I guide clients through various body awareness techniques that help to process past experiences which may be stored in the body.

Trauma-Focused CBT

I am in the process of becoming certified in Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy. I have used this with adolescents to help them process traumatic events.

Grief Therapy

I worked at a children's bereavement center for 8 months during which time I worked with both adults and children of all ages who had suffered a significant loss in their lives. One way I work with grief is by making space for the strong emotions that tend to accompany the loss. I find that many clients struggle with acceptance of the loss as well, and I can aid in that process if it is something the client wants.

Neurofeedback

I have 5 years of training and experience providing neurofeedback to clients. Generally I begin with a qEEG and then target symptoms based on that.

Attachment-based

Many of the therapy models that I have trained in have stressed the importance of attachment. I see the therapist-client relationship as foundational to the work and I work to build a strong connection with the client from the moment we meet. I also have experience helping clients identify their attachment style and explore how this impacts other relationships in their lives.
