I'm going to go out on a limb and guess that something isn't OK right now. That something might be new, or it might have been around a long time. You might be able to describe it perfectly, or you might just feel off without knowing why. Either way — you're here, and that's the only thing that matters right now. I start from wherever you are. No assumptions, no judgments, no one-size-fits-all approach. Just a genuine desire to understand you — what's brought you here, what you're carrying, and what you're hoping for. Therapy with me — whether you're coming alone or with a partner — tends to be honest and occasionally even a little lighthearted. The human experience isn't black and white, and neither is the work we'll do together. What stays consistent is that you'll have a space that belongs to you, where nothing you say or feel changes how I show up for you. For couples, that space belongs to both of you equally. I don't take sides. What I do is help you see the pattern you're both caught in — because most of the time it's the cycle doing the damage, not each other. When that shifts, something else becomes possible. No matter what it is you are navigating — depression, relationships, identity, or the gap between how you show up and how you actually feel inside — you don't have to have it figured out to reach out.

Hello, my name is Michael Chavez, LCSW, and I provide individual therapy to adults facing a variety of challenges, including anxiety, depression, work related stress, and relationship issues. I understand how tough life can be. Before I became a therapist, I went through my own challenges — unhoused, unemployed, and struggling with substance use. I am a straight-forward but empathic therapist, who also appreciates the same from her clients. I also believe in the social work mission of starting where the client is, so sessions are based upon that analogy. I have experience in many areas, including hospital, foster care, group homes, forensics, Veterans, home health, etc. I received my Masters of Social Science Administration from Case Western Reserve Univerity, and my Doctorate of Psychology from California Southern University. Although I have a doctorate degree, my scope of practice does not fall under psychological testing, pharmacological practices, nor community services. I only do individual therapy so if you need case management (such as letters), family/couples therapy, psychologicial testing, or medication, please refer to those licensed or practicing in those areas.

Hello and welcome to Careful Heart Counseling Services. As a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist, I believe healing happens when people feel seen, supported, and safe enough to be honest about what they’re carrying. My practice focuses on children, adolescents, and working and caregiving women navigating the demands of work, family, relationships, and life. I work with youth ages 5–18, helping them develop emotional awareness, healthy coping skills, communication, and behavioral strategies while creating a safe space for them to express what they may not always have the words to say. I also support parents and caregivers who are trying to balance work, family, relationships, and their own wellbeing. Because supporting a child often means supporting the people caring for them, I believe in working collaboratively with families to strengthen connection, communication, and understanding. With more than eight years of clinical experience and 15 years serving Sacramento County’s community-based mental health and social service systems, I bring both clinical expertise and a heart centered approach to my work.

My approach draws on Jungian thinking, which revolves on one central idea: much of what we think and feel remains outside of our awareness. Sometimes we keep powerful feelings hidden so we can continue moving through the day, or we simply cannot find time to reflect on everything that is happening to us. In any case, keeping these potent experiences hidden may leave us feeling stiff, dreary, unfulfilled, or even numb and dull. I offer emotional attunement and embodied wisdom. Clients come away from sessions with self-trust, and more secure boundary-wise self-care. Jungian therapist wouldn't treat these as a checklist to march through — more like threads to follow wherever they lead, since the goal is less "fixing a pattern" and more understanding what the pattern is for, psychically.

Hello, I'm Dr. Scheherazade Pheng, a licensed Clinical and Forensic Psychologist with more than 20 years of experience helping adults across California. My work has been at the intersection of mental health, the criminal justice system, and the families whose lives are deeply affected by it. One of the things that matters most to me is making quality mental health care accessible. I welcome clients with a variety of insurance plans because I believe the support you receive should never depend on the insurance card you carry. Throughout my career, I have learned two important truths. When one person enters the criminal justice system, an entire family is impacted. Parents, spouses, grandparents, and children often carry overwhelming stress, grief, fear, and uncertainty while trying to keep moving forward. I have also seen that many communities near California's prisons and detention facilities have limited access to mental health care, despite having a tremendous need for support. Whether you're struggling with anxiety, depression, trauma, grief, anger, shame, or the emotional challenges of loving someone who is incarcerated, you will find a compassionate and judgment-free space in my practice. Together, we'll work toward healing, greater clarity, and renewed hope. You deserve support just as much as the people you care about, and I'm here to help when you're ready. Dr. Pheng is also the author of The Other Side of the Wall: A Healing Guide for Families of Incarcerated Loved Ones, available at thriveinstitutefbh.com.

Hi! I'm Ceylan . My name is pronounced "Jay-lahn". I'm Turkish. Are you dissatisfied with your life? Your relationships? Your work? Are you over-thinking? Are you beating yourself up? Are you struggling to make decisions about how to move forward to build the life you really want? Maybe you even know what you want but you are blocked somehow from moving forward? For over 13 years now, I have been supporting folks in their mental health recovery journey by creating a safe space to explore what it would take to have a fulfilling and meaningful life. Much of this journey involves clarifying and aligning with personal core values, improving relationships, and implementing healthier and more enjoyable coping skills and daily routines. I have a passion for learning, helping and growing with you. We are social beings, each with our own story, unique abilities, and personal struggles; let’s stop being alone with the things we have been told are “weird” or “bad,” let’s find a way to be both our best selves and best for others around us. We are not defined by our mistakes, and we are not defined by a diagnosis. We choose how we take control of ourselves presently and in the future.

A little about me: I’m a Licensed Clinical Social Worker who, come to find out, originally got into this field largely to figure myself out. If you’ve never heard that from a therapist before, it’s actually a pretty common thread among us, we often subconsciously step into healing others as a way to find healing within ourselves. About 22 years ago, I was diagnosed with Complex PTSD, and roughly 15 years ago, I received an OCD diagnosis. Having these two conditions overlap made things incredibly challenging throughout much of my life and if I’m being completely honest, navigating that balance can still have its moments today. But there’s something powerful about a wounded healer: we tend to want more for ourselves and for the people we serve than just standard, status-quo talk therapy. We dig deeper because we need real answers on a personal level, and once we find what works, we want to share it with the world.

With over to 20 years of experience working alongside children, teens, adults, and families, I’ve learned the importance of meeting people exactly where they are, whether mentally, emotionally, or sometimes even physically. My “out-of-the-box” approach is flexible and adaptable to each individual's unique needs, offering creative, client-centered strategies where you can feel safe, supported, and empowered to explore at your own pace. My journey began in community-based settings, working with individuals and families often navigating complex systems. That foundation shaped my core belief: to show up to each session with curiosity and deep respect for each person’s unique story. My approach has always been to meet clients where they are, helping them discover healthier coping mechanisms and become more effective in their daily lives. Therapy with me is not one-size-fits-all. I tailor each session to your unique needs, integrating different modalities to support your growth in ways that feel natural and accessible to you. As your therapist, I show up as my authentic self, with the intention of creating a space where you feel safe, supported, and empowered to explore at your own pace. I offer an environment where you can express yourself freely, gain deeper insight into your thoughts and emotions, and develop tools to navigate life’s challenges more effectively.

When booking you’ll be asked to verify with your Member ID. However, if you don’t have any of the insurances available you can select cash. Our therapists will have their cost of appointment on their profile. Individual session costs will vary.

The specialty filter is optional. You don’t need to check any boxes to see a provider. However, fit is very important when selecting an online therapist. If you have knowledge or experience to recognize what specialties you may need. For example, your selected specialty, Anger Management, is filtering therapists in California that work with patients with similar concerns.

Finding a provider with a similar life experience can be beneficial because it can be easier to establish rapport and potentially be understood quicker and clearer.

Your first therapy session is for you and your therapist to meet each other and to ask any questions that you have about the counseling process. This is where you can expect your therapist to do the same as they will ask questions to gain insight into your specific situation. In this first session the therapist is doing their part to gather as much information so they can better assess if they are able to meet your therapeutic needs. Depending upon your provider's specialty, you may also discuss the methods the therapist will use. For additional information on therapy methods, please visit the Grow Therapy Help Center. Some people feel nervous before their first appointment, and that is totally normal! Coming prepared with a list of questions for your therapist may help. Remember, you're taking a brave step by seeking therapy, and it is okay to be nervous as you try something new.
