As a licensed mental health professional based in California, I specialize in providing compassionate and individualized care for clients dealing with anxiety, depression, trauma, and complex family dynamics. Drawing from a rich background for the last 15 years in evidence-based therapies like Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Solution-Focused Brief Therapy, Trauma-Informed Care, and family systems approaches, I empower my clients to navigate life's challenges and improve their relationships. My practice is centered around fostering a supportive and understanding environment where clients can explore, grow, and heal. Through a blend of clinical expertise and holistic lifestyle strategies, I guide individuals and families towards lasting change, enhancing their well-being and resilience. The impact of my work is reflected in the renewed hope, strengthened relationships, and positive life transformations experienced by those I serve.
During the first session with me as your psychotherapist, you can expect a structured and welcoming experience designed to establish a strong foundation for our therapeutic relationship. Here's what you can anticipate: * Introduction and Welcome: I'll start by warmly welcoming you to the session, introducing myself, and providing some general information about the therapeutic process. * Confidentiality and Informed Consent: I will explain the principles of confidentiality and obtain your informed consent for therapy, ensuring that you understand your rights and responsibilities as clients. * Exploration of Concerns: We will spend a significant portion of the session discussing your reasons for seeking therapy, the issues or challenges you are facing, and any immediate concerns you would like to address. * History and Background: I'll inquire about your personal history, family dynamics, and relevant life experiences to gain a comprehensive understanding of your background. * Goal Setting: We will collaboratively discuss your goals and expectations for therapy, establishing a clear understanding of what you hope to achieve. * Therapeutic Approach: I'll briefly explain the therapeutic approaches and techniques that may be used in our sessions, tailoring them to your specific needs. * Questions and Clarifications: I encourage you to ask any questions or seek clarification on the therapeutic process, expectations, or any concerns you may have. * Building Rapport: Building a trusting and comfortable rapport is a priority. I'll actively listen, show empathy, and create a safe space for you to express yourself. * Session Logistics: We'll discuss practical details such as session frequency, duration, and any administrative matters related to appointments and fees. * Next Steps: Before concluding the session, we'll discuss what to expect in subsequent sessions and any homework or self-reflection exercises, if applicable. Overall, the first session is a crucial opportunity for you to begin sharing your experiences and for me to better understand your needs. It sets the stage for a collaborative and supportive therapeutic journey aimed at helping you achieve your goals and improve your well-being.
What makes my approach unique is the combination of structure, honesty, cultural understanding, and a systems perspective. I am straightforward, calm, and intentional in my work, and I help clients move beyond simply talking about problems toward understanding patterns and making meaningful changes. My background as a family therapist allows me to see the bigger picture. I understand that an individual does not exist in isolation, and that family dynamics, relationships, cultural values, generational expectations, and life experiences can deeply shape the way a person thinks, feels, and responds to stress. I bring this perspective into individual therapy to help clients better understand not only what they are struggling with, but also where those patterns may come from. I also bring a deep understanding of Asian culture and the complexities of navigating family expectations, intergenerational differences, responsibility, identity, boundaries, and the tension that can exist between honoring family values and developing a stronger sense of self. I approach these experiences with sensitivity and without assuming that every client’s cultural experience is the same. I do not believe in a one-size-fits-all approach to therapy. I meet clients where they are and tailor my work to their personality, needs, goals, and readiness for change. I create a safe and supportive environment, while also being willing to challenge clients when appropriate. My goal is for clients to feel understood and supported, but also to leave sessions with greater insight, practical tools, and a clearer path forward.
I work best with individuals who are committed to change and ready to actively engage in therapy. My ideal clients may be struggling with trauma, anxiety, depression, stress, or life transitions, and are looking for support as they work toward healing and personal growth. They are often open to self-reflection, willing to learn new coping strategies, and motivated to make meaningful changes in their lives.
I draw from Trauma-Focused CBT techniques to support individuals working through the impact of trauma in a safe, structured, and compassionate environment. This evidence-based approach can help clients understand how trauma affects thoughts, emotions, and behaviors while building practical tools for healing. My work may include psychoeducation, relaxation skills, emotional regulation, cognitive coping, and processing difficult experiences at a pace that feels manageable. My goal is to help clients reduce trauma-related distress, build resilience, and regain a greater sense of control and safety in their lives.
I use Cognitive Behavioral Therapy techniques to help clients better understand the connection between their thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. This approach can help individuals identify unhelpful thought patterns, challenge self-defeating beliefs, and develop healthier ways of coping. My work may include cognitive restructuring, behavioral activation, and practical problem-solving strategies to support emotional well-being and lasting change. I aim to help clients build tools they can use in everyday life long after therapy ends.
I incorporate IFS-informed techniques to help clients better understand and relate to the different parts of themselves with greater compassion and clarity. This approach can be especially helpful for individuals struggling with trauma, anxiety, self-criticism, or internal conflict. Together, we may explore protective patterns, wounded parts, and the deeper emotions that may be contributing to distress, while strengthening self-awareness and inner balance. This work can help reduce shame, increase self-understanding, and support healing.
I use Motivational Interviewing techniques to help clients explore ambivalence, strengthen motivation, and move toward meaningful change. This collaborative and nonjudgmental approach can be especially helpful when clients feel stuck, uncertain, or conflicted about taking the next step. Through guided conversation, I help clients identify their own reasons for change, build confidence, and reconnect with their values and goals. My role is to support clients in making choices that feel authentic, empowering, and sustainable.
I draw from Solution-Focused Brief Therapy techniques to help clients identify what is already working and build on their existing strengths. Rather than focusing only on problems, I help clients clarify their goals, recognize their resilience, and take practical steps toward meaningful change. I may use strategies such as scaling questions and identifying exceptions to help clients notice progress and build confidence in their ability to move forward. This approach supports hope, empowerment, and achievable growth.

If I can choose all the options about Tram's therapy style I would, she is very intelligent and knowledgeable with her therapy style, its very empowering and open minded, she is very direct and solution oriented, and she is very humurous and authentic. I have been working with her for a month now, and I truly appreciate how she approaches my goals and explain how we can both reach it. I feel confident that I'll be able to be a better version of my self. 😊

I felt genuinely understood during our session. She was intuitive, validating, and helped me make sense of past behaviors with greater self-compassion, reducing a lot of shame. I appreciated that she checked her understanding rather than making assumptions. She recognized strengths I overlook in myself, explained her approach thoroughly, and gave me hope that change is possible. Her emphasis on trust, safety, and honest feedback left me feeling supported and optimistic.

I gotta say, she gets down to the core. At first I was a little confused but in the end in all made clear sense to me. I’m ready to face my fears and i’m ready to handle my issues and use effective communication at home. I’m looking forward to our next session.
